If you’ve ever wanted to really get away from it all, this incredible shepherd’s hut is the answer. With room for two, it’s a luxurious glamping destination in a secret spot on a former farm in the Mendip Hills. With just one other hut on site 150m away, it offers complete peace and quiet, as well as serene, panoramic views across open countryside towards Glastonbury Tor. Watch the stars come out as you listen to the owls hooting, and in the morning, spot deer grazing and enjoy the fresh air. All this, and yet you’re only 4.5 miles from wonderful Wells, a small city with twice-weekly markets, fabulous shops and places to eat, and an awe-inspiring cathedral. Experience the nature reserves of Westhay Moor, Ham Wall or Shapwick Heath, all within 10 miles, or visit Glastonbury Tor and take a walk around the abbey ruins where it is said King Arthur was buried.
This luxury hut is hand-built in a traditional style and feels spacious inside, with clever storage, lovely design touches and plenty of modern comforts. It’s hybrid and mainly powered by solar panels on the roof so, rather than conventional three-pin sockets, it has USB charging points inside, suitable for phones, tablets, laptops and so on. There’s indoor and outdoor lighting, and an electric radiator and wood burner create a warm and cosy atmosphere. After taking the steps up to the front door, you’ll find an open-plan interior, with the double bed stretching wall-to-wall at one end. With a high-quality, tempura memory foam mattress and Egyptian cotton bed linen, this is the ultimate nook for a comfortable night’s sleep. There’s storage space beneath and a bookshelf above, plus a bedside niche. The kitchenette (should you decide not to cook outside) consists of a two-ring gas hob, a sink, cupboards and a small fridge with ice compartment, and there’s a cute vintage dining table with two stools where you can enjoy your tasty treats. Completing the stylish interior is an en-suite shower room with hot and cold water and a proper flushing WC.
Rolling fields and beautiful trees surround the private, secluded field at the front of the hut, which features a gravelled area with a Scandinavian-style, wood-fired hot tub. This is a blissful spot in which to soak in the soothing bubbles as you admire the panoramic rural views. This area also includes a pizza oven, a fire pit and a small gas BBQ so you can cook up all kinds of delicious meals in the sunshine and under the stars. There’s a small seating arbour, too, so you can grab a coffee or a sundowner and sit back to enjoy the feeling of doing absolutely nothing. This fabulous shepherd’s hut also offers private parking for one car.
