Barrowswood, a semi-detached holiday cottage (ref 29842), enjoys commanding views over Cheddar Gorge in the distance. Its large garden adjoins a field with occasional visiting sheep and is the perfect spot in which to relax and unwind. Strawberry Lodge (ref 29841) stands detached at the far end of the grounds of Barrowswood, enjoying woodland surroundings with magnificent views over the field and across to Cheddar Gorge. Blackberry Lodge (ref W44121) is a single-storey, detached lodge, ideal for a romantic retreat for couples. All three properties may be booked together should you have a larger party.
Cheddar village offers plenty of interesting shops and cafes as well as other attractions. Cheddar Gorge, Britain’s largest limestone ravine gouged through the Mendips, is a magnet for climbers, walkers and visitors to the floodlit caves and Cheddar Reservoir is a great place to take a picnic, look out for wildlife and join in activities such as sailing and angling. Axbridge is a charming market town with a medieval square and half-timbered buildings, whilst Wookey Hole attracts many visitors to the showcaves. Wells is England’s smallest city set around a cathedral; Wedmore is a lively town with many individual shops and eateries, Glastonbury is famous for its music festival, spiritual culture and King Arthur legends, and the coastal resorts and magnificent beaches at Weston-super-Mare, Burnham-on-Sea, Berrow and Brean are all within a short drive, as are the cities of Bath and Bristol. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

We were very disappointed with our stay. The photo of the garden was misleading and needs updating. We took our dog and were expecting an enclosed garden so she could be off lead. The photos showed a wooden fence but when we arrived there was no fence and a large open field in which dogs had to be kept on the lead. Some of the written information also needs updating. The accommodation was clean but not comfortable. The host was responsive when we couldn't make the oven work and helped deal with a very large spider. If you have no dog and want a clean place to stay its okay. The cabin needs an update. Its very within easy reach of cheddar Gorge and surrounding area. Unfortunately the access is through a housing estate and down a very uneven road.

We had a lovely 5night break to relax and explore the area. Wells cathedral, bishops palace and Wells city Center were highlights and we recommend them. Cheddar was a whole day exploring the caves, climbing Jacob’s Ladder, being awed by the gorge and sampling the cheese. If you get a day pass ticket you can explore all day. The small villages surrounding Cheddar (Axbridge, Priddy) are worth visiting. The accommodation made a great base to explore. More than adequately equipped and plenty of garden space for the dog (Not enclosed). No dishwasher sadly and no welcome pack (there was a pint of milk in the fridge). The owners were very nice and helpful when asked.

Strawberry Lodge was the idea accommodation for a short break for 2 exploring the cheddar area. Amanda the owner was very nice and helpful without being intrusive. On leaving we highlighted some of the info in the information binder was out of date, with this, she told us she would get it updated. The setting is very nice and peaceful. A good 15 minute wall into cheddar, but for us older folk, plenty of parking in the main centre, using a disabled badge most of this was free. Although cost to park wasn't excessive.
