The Forge is a beautifully-converted forge nestled in the quaint village of Ham, near Creech St Michael outside the historic town of Taunton, Somerset. This single-storey home features an open-plan living space with high vaulted, beamed ceilings, hard wooden floors, which is blended with contemporary features. The Forge welcomes a couple or two friends and offers off-road parking and a private lawn, where you can savour a cup of tea in the sunshine. Enter through the stable door, where you will find a sage green kitchen area to prepare snacks and home-cooked meals with an electric oven and hob, extractor hood, microwave and fridge. Dine together at the table to chat about the highlights of the day so far or why not have an alfresco meal on your lawn? As the sky grows dark, retire inside, where you can snuggle up on the sofa; afterwards prepare for the day ahead in the sleek shower room. When sleep calls, a double bed awaits, with bedside lamps for a night-time read. The quiet and tiny village of Ham is home to the River Tone for scenic river and canal walks and from here, you can explore the edge of the Somerset Levels with its many RSPB nature reserves. Venture outside the village to the beautiful Hestercombe House & Gardens, with its temples and lakes. You are also well located to visit the City of Wells, one of the smallest cities in England. Visit on a Wednesday or Saturday to the market with its wonderful food stalls and Artisan crafts. The large town of Bridgwater is also worth a trip, hosting a variety of attractions, including the Walled Gardens of Cannington, the Blake Museum, and the Somerset Brick and Tile Museum. Additionally, Bridgwater is known for its annual carnival parade, which takes place in the autumn. Nearer to Ham is Glastonbury where you can climb the tor or explore the town. In the opposite direction you will find Dunster Castle with its 18th century working water mill which looks down on a stunning little town with very interesting shops and restaurants and tea rooms. A steam train from Bishops Lydeard to Dunster or Minehead is a really fun way to explore the North of Somerset. In only half an hour you will be at the working wetlands of Steart Marshes which attracts migrating birds and has some of the biggest tidal forces in the world. There is Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole for caves, Weston-super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea for the beaches, Street for Clarks Village, the glorious village of Dulverton with its quaint shops and Tarr Steps nearby; plus lovely villages such as Bruton with an excellent selection of independent shops. The towns of Taunton, Wellington or Honiton are within easy reach and you can even be in Sidmouth, Bear, or Exmouth within the hour. One week will not be enough time to explore all there is to offer in this particular area of Somerset. For a characterful holiday home in Somerset, choose The Forge

A great deal of care has obviously gone into equipping the cottage and Sharon was brilliant at sorting out any minor requests or queries.

Table and chairs rather small but manageable.

The bed is comfortable ,the shower is good with plenty of hot water. The Forge is in the countryside but very near to get to Taunton for shops and a great museum. It is less than an hour to get to the sea on the south coast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
