About this property

Nestling on the Somerset Coast between The Quantock Hills and Exmoor National Park this property is highly recommended as an ideal base for sightseeing and touring the area. It is situated just a short walk away from the quaint harbour town of Watchet and the West Somerset Steam Railway. A warm welcome awaits you at Roseville which provides well-furnished and equipped spacious living on one level with just one step to the patio and beautiful secluded garden with garden furniture and shady apple trees. Here you can chill out with a book, listen to your favourite music, have a barbecue and listen to the steam trains as they pass through the valley below. Or just relax to your hearts content with all the comforts of home and spoil yourselves with a local takeaway and watch your favourite TV, Netflix or DVD films. This property has been an enjoyable holiday retreat for many in the past 30 years. A short stroll from Roseville takes you to the nearby Grade 1 listed 13th century Church of St Decumans and further along a track to St Decumans Well and renovated garden – a pagan site in Celtic times. Step outside Roseville’s main entrance gate and you are on the lane where undulating footpaths and popular local walks lead you to and around Watchet. For the more adventurous and experienced walkers the West Somerset Coastal Path, The Quantock Hills and Exmoor National Park are a must. Watchet with its harbour marina old and new awaits you. From Yankee Jack to Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s Rime of the Ancient Mariner, murals, museums, shops and fishing trips, you are sure to find a welcome – you may even catch a sea-shanty or some entertainment in the many pubs, or a Sunday street fair amongst the summer activities. The East Quay overlooking the marina is a new Arts and Culture Centre with art exhibitions, displays, Kitchen eatery, shops and art studios, where you can watch the Two Rivers handmade paper making. You may then capture an amazing sunset as the sun goes down over the sea from the west pier wall. Tropiquaria, a tropical zoo, Doniford Farm Park & children’s play area, and The Torre Cider farm are all within easy reach. There are fossil beaches and rock pools to explore locally and beaches at Blue Anchor, Dunster and Minehead. To enjoy this area of outstanding beauty, you may prefer to leave the driving behind and travel by Steam train to Minehead or catch the thrill of the open top Coastal Tourer bus from Watchet or Minehead to Porlock over Exmoor and into Lynmouth for the day for an enjoyable experience (bus passes at the ready)!

With a two-millennium maritime history, Watchet is a charming harbour town in Somerset. Vistors can browse quaint shops, dine at a number of eateries, or simply watch the boats in the marina. The West Somerset Railway passes through Watchet, attracting railway enthusiasts from all over, whilst explorers visit to immerse themselves in the great outdoors of Exmoor National Park and the Quantock and Bredon Hills. Porlock, with its steep hill and winding streets, Dunster, with its dramatic castle perched above the historic village, and Minehead, with its sandy beach, golf course, and traditional seaside attractions are just a few of the charming villages to discover nearby.

Nice location. Several pleasant short walks into Watchet and a bus stop 50yds down the road. Watchet is a lovely harbour town. There is a newly open arts centre that wasn't there on our last visit. Interesting museums. We especially liked the radio museum. Enjoyed our stay at Roseville.

The basin in the en-suite hot water tap had to be run for 3-5 minutes to get lukewarm water. Insufficient for wet shaving.

A pleasant short walk to the seafront, Watchet has everything needed for a good weeks holiday. The house was clean, modern and in a nice quiet location. A lovely garden to sit out in and a lawn. The beds very comfortable and all needs catered for bar one. (Extra toilet rolls please as we ran out quickly ! ). Would highly recommend.
