Tollgate Cottage is a charming property praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and proximity to local attractions, including a pub and scenic walks. While some guests noted traffic noise from the nearby A12, the cottage's views and wildlife, including birds and seals, were highlights. The garden and welcome treats added to the pleasant experience, despite some comments on maintenance and road noise.
The cottage is consistently described as clean and cosy, with multiple guests expressing satisfaction with its tidiness. However, one review mentioned dirty curtains, slightly lowering the score.
The location is ideal for visiting the coast and enjoying local walks, with a good pub nearby. However, the proximity to the A12 and associated traffic noise has been a concern for some guests, affecting the score.
Guests find the cottage comfortable and well-suited for holidays, with clean and comfortable bedrooms. Some concerns about the furniture and noise from the A12 are noted, but overall, the comfort level is high.
The cottage is well-equipped and offers good value, but there are mentions of maintenance issues such as the need for furniture replacement and repairs. The garden also requires some attention.
While some guests appreciated the welcome treats, there is not enough consistent information about the thoughtfulness of the hosts across the reviews to provide a score. It should be noted that such gifts are a kind gesture and not guaranteed.

It is tucked away alongside the A12 which runs the length of the Suffolk Heritage Coast making it the ideal spot for those wishing to explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In the village you will find a popular pub and walks including those by the famous church. The legend of the Black Shuck, a ghostly black dog, dates back to 1577 and has been immortalised in songs and folk legend. The church itself is an incredible structure, overlooking the Blyth Valley.
Public transport is superb here and you can get into the ever popular Southwold to enjoy all the quintessential town has to offer with ease. From its independent shops, brightly coloured beach huts and traditional pier, it’s easy to see why this coastal town is a holiday hot spot all year round. Walberswick is also an excellent must see during your visit. Crabbing here is the sport of choice and it will keep kids entertained all day. All you need is a line, a bucket and bacon (we hear smoked bacon is the preferred kind!).
This is also a dog friendly area with endless woodland and beach walks. A trip to Dunwich and the woods are highly recommended. With a much needed pub at the end of the route this is a destination ideal for both summer and winter getaways. RSPB Minsmere is also close by with incredible sighting of rare species reported by birdwatchers. Beach 3 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

the furniture at the front entrance needs replacing, unsafe to site on. The rear garden needs the trees/shrubs cutting back to give more light to the garden. Fruit needs moving from the lawn before next people arrive, first impressions. Other than that cottage very comfortable with everything you need. a good pub only yards away, a small shop hidden away up the back road, and super walks along the estuary.
