Nearby attractions include the historic ancient monument of Castle Hill or vibrant Huddersfield town centre with its bustling markets and cultural gems both of which can be reached in around 15 minutes.
Venture slightly further afield and a 20 – 30 minute journey could take you to Shibden Hall, (home to Anne Lister of Gentleman Jack), Ogden Water Country Park, Cannon Hall Farm, Yorkshire Sculpture Park or Marsden Moor for breath taking scenery. Martha's Place has lovely views, cow and horse neighbours, birds and rabbits, so it was nice to sit outside and enjoy the view over breakfast or afternoon tea. The property is spacious, a good size and warm. We liked the wood panelling and the blinds were much easier to use compared to some we have encountered. In late August the gas burner was not needed at all. The place is peaceful, despite the proximity of the M62 - which could be seen but not heard. Could do with a slightly smaller or better positioned bin indoors. My wife managed the uneven track and the rather high steps well enough, but this would not suit those with more substantial mobility issues. Our dog clearly enjoyed it, despite having to be on her lead. Shibden Hall, and Castle Hill, even in the rain., were worth visiting. Mirfield, only just down the hill from the property, had several nice cafes and after a bit of a search we finally located the relevant OS map in Brighouse bookshop. We enjoyed the village of Marsden with its extremely well served railway line, the adjoining canal and the open moorland. On a self devised mystery tour on a very wet day we found and would recommend the pub in Shepley (where we discovered Rugby League was formed).Almost at the end of our stay my wife said she would not mind gong back - which is high praise indeed!

The location and photographs are realistic- the view is really that wonderful.I have stayed in a shepherd's hut before, this one is bigger, maybe a couple of feet wider and five feet or so longer, which really helps. It has everything you need in the kitchen and bathroom spaces. The bed is comfy. There is a discrete TV that swings out from the wall, but does not impose on the space.The decking makes Martha's Place special. Every evening I sat out looking over the rolling fields to distant towns and hills and more fields.There are public footpaths in all directions and the whole area is fantastic for walking - I took an OS map and it helped.I will definitely be returning.
