Settle is a thriving market town on the outskirts of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, set against the UK's greatest outcrop of limestone - an area of scars, cliffs, caverns, and potholes - and some of North Yorkshire's most attractive landscape. Tuesday is market day in Settle, with vendors selling a wide range of crafts and items in the square. The Shambles, an old three-story building with stores on two floors and houses above, and the Town Hall dominate the market area, which is bordered by local businesses.

Fantastic fixtures and fittings. Great location too. The only thing I would comment about is the heating. The house was cold at times, especially the kitchen/dining area. Bathroom very cold too. There was a sticker on the thermostat in the kitchen that said It was set up and not to touch! It seemed to only come on early evening 7-8 and that was it. I sent a txt to a contact number to ask about it and the cleaner got back to me. He said just turn up the thermostat. Not possible. It was set to 22 degrees but only came on once a day. Just not good enough. Could really have done with heating on in the morning for an hour or two. That said I must say no complaints about anything else.

Even in a warm summer this could be problematic. In an Autumn, even mild, it still rains and the wind blows. Getting back to a house after some moderately hard exercise energy levels and heat are likely to be low. The only way to get warm in this situation is to run as large a hot bath as possible and immerse yourself in it. Not a good use of energy or water. Some flexibility in heating the place should be restored to the occupants. The system feeding the TV had been disrupted when we arrived. It took us a long time to find which lead went back into which socket, and requests for help with overcoming the problem got no response. The light over the front door had failed. It would be useful even in Autumn to be able to see which key to use and where to put it in the door. There were other minor problems e,g. a toast rack would be useful. A review of what an adequately equipped house would have may well throw up other items it would be worth providing.

Had to draw curtains to stop people staring in - on a sunny evening! Yet thereâs a blind in the kitchen and back bedroom, where nobody can see in - crazy! Also - no knives at all - weâd bought vegetables, meat etc to cook with, but couldnât chop them up, so had to throw them all away. And really needs instructions for the induction hob. A key for the shed would have been handy, as it took up half of the yard, but was locked. Such a lovely house, great location, it wouldnât take much money to rectify these basic flaws. Desperately needs blinds at the windows, above everything! Having to draw the curtains and switch lights on, on a beautiful sunny morning, is madness! But this is what I had to do every day, as I went to shower. Total lack of privacy.
