Guests say

Dales Retreat is praised for its excellent central location in Skipton, offering easy access to the town’s attractions while remaining peaceful. Guests appreciate the spaciousness, comfortable beds, and charming decor. The cottage is generally well-equipped, making it a good base for families and groups. Some guests noted areas needing attention, such as cleanliness, maintenance, and the occasional lack of promised welcome gifts. Overall, the property provides a pleasant and convenient stay, with most guests enjoying their time and expressing willingness to return.

Most guests found the property clean and comfortable, but several reviews mention issues such as unhoovered carpets, dust, cobwebs, and occasional missed cleaning in bedrooms. Some guests also noted bedding and towels needing refreshment. While not a consistent problem, these comments suggest room for improvement.

The location is consistently highlighted as a major strength, being central yet quiet, with easy access to Skipton’s shops, restaurants, and transport. Guests found parking manageable in nearby car parks, despite none being available on-site.

Guests generally found the cottage spacious and the beds comfortable, with positive remarks about the layout and social spaces. Some noted issues with thin blinds, old bedding, and cold rooms, but these did not significantly detract from overall comfort.

The cottage is well-equipped for most needs, but several guests mentioned inadequate kitchenware, broken fixtures (such as toilet seats and blinds), and maintenance issues like cracked ceilings and missing door frames. These detracted from the 'luxury' expectation but did not prevent enjoyment.

Some guests received a welcome basket or snacks, which were appreciated, but others did not, despite it being advertised. As such, gifts or welcome packs are not guaranteed. Suggestions for more local information and small touches were also made.

We enjoyed our stay at Dales Retreat...lovely location & handy for everything...few pointers need looking into....the stone slab at the front door is broken & wobbles...one of the plugs in the bathroom sink missing, not enough towels for everyone or toilet rolls...need extra microwave dishes

The house is in a great location. No parking, but was easy and cheap to park on the town's car parks for the week. The cottage could be a perfect base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and despite many issues we did enjoy our stay. It had been well decorated but needs some renovating to be classed as 'luxury' as per the listing. There are many cracks, the obvious results of a bathroom leak, many broken upstairs floorboards and bits of internal door frames missing. The upstairs blinds are not adequate - far too thin and blocked out zero light so we woke very early. The shower was also stuck on scalding hot.The kitchen is well equipped and there is a washing machine, drying rack and iron which was welcome! Unfortunately the cleanliness of the property was not up to scratch with many cobwebs and floors not cleaned properly - dust and spills remained from previous visitors and upstairs carpets had not been hoovered well. We were left with one clean towel and one that smelled very damp so I washed before use. No towels were left for the other 4 beds. No welcome pack other than some dishwasher tablets. Absolutely not a problem, but don't add to the listing if it won't be fulfilled. A new bed had been delivered in one room on our day of arrival which we were aware of, but it had not been made and bedding was left dumped in a pile on the floor. No attempt to clean the room appeared to have been made.We did enjoy our stay as it is a great space and in a brilliant location with lots to do close by! But we would not return based on the level of cleanliness and lack of care for preparing the cottage for new visitors.

I enjoyed my time here and would have given it 5 stars if not for the following. The cottage was still being cleaned when we arrived at our check-in time of 4pm.The down stairs toilet seat was completely broken so unless your male your not going to use it.There were quite a few things needing repair if the cottage was to live up to its luxury title. The welcome pack was some dish washer tablets not what we expected from the cottage photos.
