About this property

Kettlewell 10.2 miles, Settle 10 miles. The Barn at Amelia’s Kitchen is an extravagant barn conversion situated in the hamlet of Halton Gill, at the top end of Littondale, North Yorkshire. This pet-friendly property is more than ideal for a big group trip away to appreciate the countryside views this part of the country has to offer. Settle into your home-from-home by deciding which one of the five bedrooms you want as your corner of the barn conversion. Make sure to hang out in the kitchen to cook up a big group meal, with a table seating 12 inviting you to watch the designated chef at work. Alternatively, leave them to it and head out to relax in the garden and watch the sunset. When ready for a voyage away from your outstanding holiday base, why not walk down the valley to The Queens Arms in Litton with its onsite microbrewery and award winning pies? Alternatively you could explore Arncliffe, where the Falcon Inn was the original Woolpack from Emmerdale, and keen viewers of All Creatures Great and Small will recognise a few locations. You can head on down the valley to Grassington to spot plenty more locations too – if you’re lucky you might even see it turned into Darrowby for the day’s filming. Stainforth has both Catrigg and Stainforth Force Waterfalls which are a wonderful chance for a walk, or even a spot of wild swimming for the hardy. Just down the road in Langcliffe you can explore the fascinating industrial archaeology of the Craven Lime Works Hoffman kiln. From walking around Settle, you can visit Victoria Cave, which was accidentally discovered back in 1837, or if you’d rather have a day of splashing around take a dip in the Settle Area Swimming Pool. Anyone who is a foodie and likes cheese should make a beeline for the Courtyard Dairy, just off the A65 beyond Giggleswick - Nibble on the vast selection they will offer you to taste, then bring some home to enjoy with your evening tipple. For people looking to scale one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, you can hike up Pen-Y-Ghent via Foxup and Plover hill, or take the shorter (but steeper!) route from Dale Head. If heights are your thing, a trip over to Malham to admire the view from the top of Malham Cove is a must, or even a circular walk taking in Goredale Scar, and Janet’s Foss too. For the daredevils amongst you, there’s always the challenge of climbing up the waterfall and walking onto Malham Tarn. Further afield, Skipton has a wealth of attractions starting with the Skipton Castle and a wander around the peaceful woods, or perhaps a canal trip and a potter through the regular market. Go on the hunt for something spooky with a Skipton ghost walking tour, or if the kids want to see some animals and let off some steam, Hesketh Farm Park is certainly something for them. Look forward to a big group holiday by booking The Barn at Amelia’s Kitchen now.

The bustling market town of Settle lies at the south west rim of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, nestled beside the largest outcrop of limestone in Britain - a region of scars, cliffs, caves and potholes - amongst some of the most picturesque scenery in North Yorkshire. Tuesday is market day in Settle, when the square is filled with stalls offering a wide variety of crafts and goods. The market place is surrounded by local businesses, the centre being dominated by The Shambles, an historic three storey building with shops on two levels and houses above, and the Town Hall. There is a good selection of restaurants and pubs and a public swimming pool. The Victoria Hall has entertainment and other activities such as folk nights throughout the year. The famous Settle-Carlisle Railway crosses some of the most beautiful and inspiring upland scenery in the country. Natural attractions such as Malham Cove and Gordale Scar are within easy reach, as are the nearby Dales towns of Skipton and Malham. Settle is in the midst of excellent walking country and is a good base for touring the Dales, the Lake District and the Forest of Bowland.
