About this property

Number 15 is a elegantly furnished Victorian terrace in the Sowerby conservation area, a stone’s throw from Thirsk’s historic market square. Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac, Number 15 is the perfect base for a family or group of six wanting to explore the best Yorkshire has to offer. Thirsk is the gateway to the North York Moors, but it is also within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales, the beautiful cities of York and Ripon and the glorious coastline around Whitby, Filey and Scarborough. Thirsk is a traditional Yorkshire market town, famous for being the home of James Herriot (real name Alf White) author of All Creatures Great and Small․ Alf’s home and veterinary practice is now one of two museums in the town. There’s plenty to do on the doorstep including riverside walks, a racecourse, independent cinema, arts centre and indoor swimming pool. Thirsk’s cobbled town square is bustling with independent shops, cafes and restaurants. It hosts a twice-weekly market and monthly farmers’ market․ York is just a 16-minute train ride away and it’s a 10-minute drive to the spectacular views, walks and cycle ways of Sutton Bank. Number 15 has parking on the private lane to the rear of the property, with additional roadside space at the front. The enclosed rear garden is a stunning sun-trap with warm Yorkshire stone flags and sweet smelling flowerbeds․ There’s a large bistro table for al-fresco dining or to enjoy a chilled glass of wine. Once inside Number 15, you’ll find a warm and inviting home bursting with traditional features. The stylish sitting room is decorated in soft neutral tones, with two comfy sofas to curl up on with a good book․ Relax with a board game in front of the open fire or catch up on your favourite programmes as you stream your shows onto the TV. The dining room has a log-burning stove for cosy suppers and a cupboard full of games for fun times together. The well-equipped kitchen boasts a range cooker with double oven for dinner parties and a dishwasher to take care of the washing up․ Behind the kitchen is a utility room with washing machine and a full-sized bathroom. Upstairs, there are three elegant bedrooms: one king-size, one double, and a twin, served by an additional convenient shower room.

Thirsk is referred to as the gateway to the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. It is a bustling market town with a quaint market place, a variety of stunning architecture, including Georgian buildings and a Norman church, as well as a selection of pubs, shops and restaurants. Explore the surrounding rolling countryside and dramatic scenery of the national parks, as well as Hambleton Hills, while the cathedral city of York is within easy reach.

This was our second visit to this property after 2 years and it didn’t disappoint. The house is cosy and has a very well equipped kitchen. It feels very much like a home unlike some properties we rent. The garden looks a little sad but then again it is winter. Parking was no problem and the dogs enjoyed lovely walks straight from the door. The owners are very welcoming.

Beds were very comfortable, and easy to operate hall thermostat on colder evenings, also the television and remote were straightforward without any problems. Very well equipped kitchen with excellent double gas oven. if I would pick out one very small moan it would have been nice to have found a pint of milk in the fridge so as not to have had to go straight out again before having a hot drink on arrival. However as the supermarket was a mere three minute walk and we had to do a food shop anyway it was'nt a problem, also we were able to purchase some kindling and firelighters so as to get a fire going. Overall a superb week and in a cottage I would thoroughly recommend... Mick and Janet.

It was situated near the Thirsk main square a 5 minute walk away. We had 2 dogs with us and found an amazing walking area for them which followed the river. The property was very well equipped with everything that one would need. The area around Thirsk has lots of lovely small towns worth visiting. I would recommend a train trip to York only 20 minutes away. I would recommend this property.
