The Arches is a charming cottage set in a stunning, peaceful location with breathtaking views of the North York Moors. Guests consistently praise the welcoming hosts, the abundance of farm animals, and the relaxing atmosphere. The property is well-equipped and clean, with thoughtful touches on arrival. While a few guests noted minor issues such as mattress comfort and kitchen equipment, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, making it an ideal retreat for nature lovers and those seeking tranquillity.
The majority of guests found the cottage spotlessly clean and tidy, with only rare mentions of minor issues such as a dishwasher left with dirty water. Cleanliness is consistently highlighted as a strong point.
The location is widely celebrated for its spectacular views, peaceful setting, and proximity to walking trails and a friendly local pub. The remote, scenic environment is a major highlight for most guests.
Most guests found the cottage comfortable and relaxing, with cosy beds and a tranquil atmosphere. However, several reviews mention uncomfortable mattresses and a few comments about the lounge layout and bathroom, which slightly lowers the score.
The property is generally described as well-equipped, with good WiFi and kitchen amenities. Some guests noted a lack of certain items like hairdryers, clothes airers, or firelighters, and a few suggested more pans or updated mattresses, but overall satisfaction with facilities is high.
Many guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as welcome baskets with wine, bread, milk, and biscuits. While these gestures are frequently mentioned, it should be noted that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.
A superb, semi-detached barn conversion situated on a traditional hill farm in Farndale, two miles from Low Mills. Lovingly renovated with many features such as an arched window in the sitting room, exposed beams, and an open fire, The Arches offers superb accommodation decorated and furnished to an excellent standard. Walkers can step out from the farm into the open countryside and enjoy the many footpaths and trails, and mountain bikers are well catered for with the numerous tracks and bridleways. Kirkbymoorside, Hutton-le-Hole and Helmsley are all also within easy reach. A perfect base for a relaxing holiday. Note: The Arches can be booked with Ref 1392, together they sleep 16.
The stunning valley of Farndale is in the North York Moors National Park and in spring there is a spectacular display of daffodils along the side of the River Dove. The fields are divided by ancient dry stone walls and the narrow lanes wind around the spectacular valley. The lovely old market town of Kirkbymoorside is 10 miles away and has a good selection of shops and restaurants as well as a market every Wednesday, when the stalls are set out on the charming cobbled streets. Pickering is home to the North York Steam Railway and trains run from here to Grosmont along an 18-mile stretch of glorious countryside. Walkers have many trails and footpaths to follow and this is a fabulous area for a holiday at any time of the year.
