Guests say

Clara's Cottage receives high praise for its charming blend of old and modern, cosy atmosphere, and thoughtful personal touches. Guests appreciate the welcoming feel, comfortable furnishings, and the property's suitability for both families and pets. Its location is ideal for exploring local attractions and enjoying countryside walks. The enclosed garden and summerhouse are also well-received. While some mention of damp is noted, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests eager to return.

The cottage is consistently described as clean, with only one mention of a damp smell which seems to be an isolated comment. The majority of guests found the property to be well-maintained.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to walks, local points of interest, and the coast. The village setting is appreciated for its peace and beauty, although one guest noted the local pub's closure.

Guests find the beds very comfortable and the living spaces cosy, especially with the open fire. The garden adds to the comfort by providing a relaxing outdoor space.

While guests are generally pleased with the facilities, including the well-equipped kitchen and smart TV, there is insufficient detail to accurately score maintenance. The mention of damp suggests some maintenance issues, but without more information, a fair score cannot be given.

The host's thoughtfulness is frequently mentioned, with personal notes and a welcome pack adding to the guests' experience. While these gestures are highly appreciated, it's important to note that such personal touches, although delightful, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

This delightful Grade II listed cottage is situated in the charming, rural village of West Lutton, in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds and close to the towns of Driffield, Malton and Scarborough. Built around 1801 as an estate workers’ cottage, this superb property is an ideal base for families and friends wishing not only to explore the Wolds, but also the stunning North York Moors National Park, the Hambleton Hills, The Howardian Hills, the stunning coast and even the historic city of York, which is just 50 minutes' drive away. You can leave your car on the cottage's wooden bridge over the pretty Gypsey Race stream. Once you have parked up and gone inside, you will find a holiday home that caters for all your needs, with character features throughout, including exposed beams and fireplaces. There is also the added bonus of modern features including BT Infinity WiFi and BT TV. The kitchen has everything you require to rustle up a tasty breakfast before venturing out for the day, or a heart-warming meal in the evening, which can then be enjoyed in the dining room with feature fireplace. On chilly evenings, you can relax in the snug sitting room whilst the logs on the warming woodburning stove crackle away. Alternatively, summer nights can be spent enjoying an alfresco meal, or curling up and unwinding in the summerhouse with a cold drink and good book. On the first floor are three bedrooms, including the master king-size double with an apex ceiling and feature fireplace, and the bathroom has an electric shower and a deep whirlpool bath, perfect for resting those achy legs after long walks out and about in the Wolds. Nestled in the beautiful Great Wold Valley, West Lutton has an historic church and a dog-friendly pub, The Three Tuns, which is just a two minute walk from the cottage and serves great beer and home-cooked food. The Blue Bell and The Star in nearby Weaverthorpe are both also excellent choices for dining out, as is The Triton Inn in the beautiful estate village of Sledmere. There is a good farm shop at Sledmere as well as Butterwick, both only a few miles away. The gentle, undulating Yorkshire Wolds, stretching from the River Humber to the south to the chalk cliffs of Flamborough Head are ideal for walking and cycling, and are well worth exploring. There’s plenty to see and do in the area, including the historic properties of Castle Howard, Sledmere House and Deer Park, Burton Agnes Hall and Gardens, the RSPB reserve at Bempton near Flamborough, the coastal resorts of Bridlington, Filey, Scarborough and Whitby. Inland there’s Thirsk, Helmsley, Easingwold, Pickering and of course York. A wonderful Wolds cottage for a varied break.

The small, rural village of West Lutton is situated in the Yorkshire Wolds, close to Driffield. The village has one pub, but close by is the village of Weatherthorpe, which hosts a village shop, Post Office and excellent inns. Ideally located, West Lutton is just a short drive from the delightful historic market towns of Malton and Driffield, while the East coast resorts of Filey, Bridlington and Scarborough, with their long, safe, sandy beaches and seaside amenities, are also easily accessible.

It's very nice to live in. It's in easy driving distance of York, Malton, Pickering and the Yorkshire coastal beaches and resorts. There are also local walks straight from the cottage. Coming from Scotland, it's a very different part of the country. My only comment about the listing's is that ' the pub 3 minutes walk' is now closed.

It’s comfortable cosy but unique . We felt at home straight away. It’s super dog friendly . The summerhouse in the garden is a perfect place to enjoy both your mornings & afternoons when you return. Catherine has created a lovely home. With everything you need for your stay . We can wait to go back .

As regular visitors to Yorkshire I can happily say this is the best location we have stayed in and the kids pretty much summed up how homely and well equipped the cottage is by asking if we could live there! The cottage is full of personality and character and a lot of time and thought has been put in to making it a welcoming place to stay and providing everything for an enjoyable week. The wife was happy with nice kitchen appliances, the kids were never cleaner having enjoyed many a whirlpool bath and the living room was cosy and comfortable, and for once we weren’t trawling charity shops for DVDs to keep us entertained in the evenings with the kids asleep as the TV is smart and we were able to sign in to our Netflix account and enjoy our usual series with the WiFi speeds more than capable of handling everyday life! There is also a large amount of dvds present alongside board games and books for those who don’t have younger children who retire to bed early! We were blessed with lovely warm weather during our stay and even more blessed with how lovely and cool the cottage remained during our stay, no hot sleepless nights and don’t be put off if you are planning a stay at a cooler time of year, the fireplace in the living room has a lovely large log burner for cosy nights! So much to do in the surrounding area but I won’t cover this as half the fun is exploring and finding your own way, whether it be family activities, lovely villages and towns for a wander and a cream tea, Castles and ruins, hiking the moors or days at the beach! Just be assured that a mountain of leaflets and maps are provided and despite this being our 6th or 7th visit over the years to Yorkshire we still always find new places to explore! Thank you for a wonderful stay and we will most definitely be back!
