Pickering is a wonderful base for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors and the nearby coastline. Pickering itself is a pretty market town, with the popular market taking place every Monday. You are less than a 10 minute walk from the bustling streets with independent cafes, restaurants and friendly pubs in the town centre. The steam train is only 5-minutes away and winds its way from Pickering over the rolling heather, through valleys and over hills to many picturesque villages all the way to Whitby and is ideal for a special day out. In December they even have a themed Christmas Santa Special. One of the highlights on the calendar in Pickering is the annual War Weekend, which includes battle re-enactments, live music, and more as the beatiful historic town seems to slip back in time.
The surrounding North Yorkshire Moors is a haven for walkers with many trails to explore and an abundance of wildlife. Dalby Forest has a choice of trails for cyclists as well as walkers, plus for thrill seekers you have the Go Ape zip lines through the treetops. Nearby you have Malton the food capital of Yorkshire with a market, award-winning restaurants and a cookery school. Castle Howard is one of Britain’s finest stately homes, sure to fill you with awe. There are also the beaches of Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington nearby to explore. For children why not treat them with a day out to remember at Flamingoland theme park and zoo less than 10 minutes away. Beach 18 miles. Pub and restaurant 175 yards.

What a beautiful home. It gives a very welcoming vibe the moment you walk through the front door. The real fire was an extremely welcome feature after some very cold days out. The furnishings and linen were all very comfortable and clean. The kitchen was suitably equipped to cook meals, although, it’s worth mentioning, Pickering does have an excellent choice of Restaurants, pubs and takeaways etc. The owners were helpful and always on hand (via WhatsApp) but also unobtrusive. There are many features that ensure this house is a very warm and cosy place to stay, and, with an ample sized rear garden and summerhouse, it would be an excellent base in spring/summer too. Pickering itself is a great location. We have visited here previously, and we will certainly return, with Swiss Cottage as our first choice for accommodation. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home.Paul, Helen, Megan & Pippa the Dog.
