Charming cottages situated in a scenic holiday location, which form an ideal base from which to explore the stunning scenery of the North Yorkshire Coast..."
The six cottages at Killerby Old Hall are ideal for a countryside holiday whilst being less than 2 miles from the beach of Cayton Bay. The owners live on-site and guests can enjoy the countryside or relax in the indoor heated swimming pool. The accommodation ranges from the Dovecote sleeping 14 in period splendour, through to cosy Chestnut Cottage which sleeps 6. Set in a pretty courtyard, each cottage is different yet has its own sitting-out area with patio furniture and four of the cottages have private hot tubs.
Killerby Old Hall is situated between the coastal resorts of family friendly Filey, with its cobble landing and pretty promenade, and Scarborough, with its vibrant South Bay and naturally picturesque North Bay, located on part of Britain’s heritage coast. The Stephen Joseph Theatre, famed throughout the county, puts on a number of Alan Ayckbourn productions. To the north, across the stunning North Yorkshire Moors, lies the port of Whitby; famous for its connections to Captain James Cook and Dracula. Robin Hood’s Bay, a former fishing village with a smugglers past, has quaint streets which lead visitors to a small, sandy cove and rock pools. Heading inland, find the historic market town of Pickering, where the famous North Yorkshire Moors steam train begins its journey. Access Dalby Forest through the attractive village of Thornton-le-Dale and be sure to stop for an ice cream. The forest offers a range of activities including mountain bike tracks, or for those feeling adventurous there is Go Ape. It is also a popular picnic destination which is surrounded by walks that the whole family can enjoy. Travel a little further afield to Castle Howard with its stunning house and grounds. The ancient, Roman walled city of York sits just an hour up the A64, a famously haunted city with many attractions such as the railway museum, river trips and excellent shopping. To the south along the coast, the Cleveland Way leads to dramatic Flamborough Head and the Bempton rspb Sanctuary. The village of Cayton is a 500 yard stroll, with two local pubs, post office and shop. Full amenities are just over 4 miles away in Scarborough and fishing is available nearby. Beach 1 mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Could be a great lodge but cleaning and maintenance let it down. Contacted the owner same night as arrived about quite a few issues and a second time as found more and tried their best to sort them but I’d had to sort some myself straight away as couldn’t be left! Good size lodge, good sized enclosed garden and hot tub (gate could benefit from a high up bolt possibly?) towels were big and fluffy. Onsite pool great to book for yourselves if staying in the lodges, water a little cool for some. Play park for children, onsite restaurant was lovely. Quiet at night, 20min drive from Scarborough with beach, aquarium, water park. petrol station/shop 2 mins away. Water activities centre close by which has a lot to do. We went on a horse riding hack which was only 10min away and catered for every ability

The lodge is in a lovely setting however it falls short in some areas. The shower room lacks privacy as the window looks out into the path for the lakeside lodges and without any blinds people can very easily see in especially when the light is on. The water pressure in the shower is also very low so it is more of a dribble than a shower. The sofa isn’t big enough for you all to sit together although there is a small sofa in the dining area. The kitchen is well equipped and the large fridge/freezer is great. There is a tall dustpan and brush but we would have liked more cleaning equipment like a broom and a mop as we had 4 children with us and things can get messy sometimes. There are other very minor things such as the end missing off the cue so we were unable to use the pool table and a couple of the windows had cracks in them. There used to be a washer and dryer in the property but these have been removed (we did know this before we went) it would have been useful to have them in the property with 8 of us in there. The hot tub and swimming pool were great for the kids and the staff onsite were lovely and always helpful. We contacted the site a couple of times before we went with questions and they always got back to us straight away.
