Guests say

Wyke Lodge Cottage is a well-regarded property with guests praising its comfort, spaciousness, and prime location for exploring the Yorkshire coast. The cottage's charm, cosy living room with an open fire, and well-equipped kitchen are frequently mentioned. While some maintenance issues are noted, the owner's responsiveness to problems is appreciated. The property offers a peaceful setting and is considered good value, with many guests expressing a desire to return.

The cottage is generally described as clean and well-maintained, with several reviews highlighting its cleanliness. However, a few comments suggest room for improvement, particularly in the kitchen.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity and proximity to local attractions, making it an excellent base for exploring Scarborough, Whitby, and the surrounding areas. The rural setting and nearby walking tracks are also appreciated.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with special mentions of the cosy living room and comfortable beds. Some reviews, however, point out issues with bedroom configuration and heating consistency.

The facilities are generally well-received, especially the well-equipped kitchen and spacious bathrooms. Nonetheless, there are several remarks about the need for updates and repairs, as well as some appliances nearing the end of their lifespan.

While some guests mention a welcome pack, the contents vary and there is insufficient information to determine consistency or quality. As such, it is not possible to accurately score thoughtfulness based on the available reviews.

About this property

This 100-year-old stone built detached former coach house lies on the edge of the small scattered village of Staintondale, between Scarborough and Whitby. Set within the North York Moors National Park, it is an ideal base for families or groups of friends to explore both the nearby dramatic coastline and the stunning surrounding scenery. Inside, there is a welcoming sitting room, with a crackling open fire and character beams. The separate dining room has a stone flagged floor and large glass patio doors, while the well-equipped country style kitchen is perfect for preparing tasty family meals. With a ground floor single bedroom and bathroom, and an en-suite off the twin room, this charming property caters for all needs.

Outside, there is a small rear patio, ideal for guests to sit and relax with a morning coffee, before heading off for the day. From the door, there are excellent walking and cycling opportunities, with the 23 mile Cinder Track just down the road and the clifftop Cleveland Way Trail just a little further. The nearby traditional coastal resort of Scarborough is a delight, where the family can enjoy the classic seaside fun of building sandcastles, paddling in the sea, donkey rides and tackling candy floss, as well as trying your hand at surfing. Stroll along the promenade, climb up to the castle ruins, or wander around the pretty gardens, including Peasholm Park.

The fresh sea air will whet your appetite and there is plenty of choice, with cafes, bistros and good restaurants to tempt you, along with renowned fish and chips. With the spectacular scenery of the North York Moors to explore, plus Whitby and quaint coastal villages such as Robin Hood's Bay to visit, your first visit to Wyke Lodge Cottage won't be your last.

Staintondale is a delightful village on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, close to the coast. Midway between the fishing town of Whitby, with its Abbey, and the town of Scarborough, with its theatres and entertainment, it is a haven of peace offering the best of both worlds. From Staintondale itself, a network of footpaths and bridleways can be enjoyed.

Firstly, the cottage has everything you need to live like you are at home and the facilities are second to none (the oven was even better than the one I have at home!) the cottage, even though situated on a road, is extremely peaceful and I’ve had some of the best nights sleep ever here! You are near to the Cinder Track for some lovely walks and a pub (with amazing home cooked food) is not too far (The Hayburn Wyke). It is easy to get all along the coast from the cottage and we have enjoyed some lovely days out in Whitby, Scarborough, Bridlington, York and Malton to name a few. The main highlight of our visit was that any questions we had were promptly answered and advice always helpful! I can honestly say that my partner and I will remember this visit for a very long time and will look back on it with very fond memories! If you want a relaxing home then this is definitely for you! Thanks to everyone for the most amazing stay!!
