Spacious grounds. Ample parking. No smoking. Please note: No stag, hen or other party bookings allowed.. Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War I army barracks are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. Four of the barracks have been ingeniously and tastefully transformed to provide good quality accommodation retaining much rustic character and charm. The remaining four lodges retain their near original condition as a visual reminder of their former function. Each refurbished lodge has the added advantage of free parking, an outdoor sitting area and bike parking racks.
Situated just off the Cleveland Way, there are many fine moorland and cliff top walks. There is a golf course and driving range in Brotton, 6¾ miles away, and at Scaling Reservoir, 7¼ miles, there is sailing and fishing. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafés and a restaurant, and in 2020 the village was featured on the BBC programme ’Gone Christmas Fishing’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.
Please note: As the four lodges are in close proximity to one another, they could be booked for groups of up to 24 guests. Additional en-suite rooms available on site, on request with owner.. In Staithes, near Whitby there is the Life Boat weekend in August and the Arts and Heritage Festival in September.

This property has been renovated amazingly!! Every comfort you could think of is there!! If I was being really picky a plug socket would have been good next to the beds for medical devices to be plugged in overnight but that’s it! People in our party had poor mobility so they were unable to visit the harbour in Staithes but there were lots of other places to visit close by. Communication with the owner was very quick and easy. Plus free parking which is a premium for the location. Absolutely 10 out of 10 ❤️❤️

Fantastic WWI barracks really well converted into a bungalow that sleeps 6.The owner was incredibly helpful and friendly. Each room has an en-suite and the beds are really comfortable. Its situation is perfect for exploring North Yorkshire and Staithes is such a beautiful, quaint little seaside town. The kitchen is well equipped with a good array of cooking pans and implements. This made cooking easy. There's even a toastie maker! The fridge-freezer is large and will easily hold enough food for a large family. The TV is a smart TV so really easy to connect any OD TV services. The TV is large enough, and the seating area laid out well enough for everyone to be able to comfortably watch. In summary, I would have zero hesitation in recommending Bosuns Rest as an amazing place to stay in North Yorkshire. The cottage is well equipped, comfortable, spacious with great views and perfectly situated for all manner of activities!

Our second visit to Bosuns Rest which is located at the top of the Staithes Hill, so you need to be physically mobile if you want to access Staithes as there is no parking in the village. It's in a great location for visiting Whitby, Saltburn, Filey etc. The accommodation has everything you need for a self catering holiday and has the real benefit of en-suite facilities in each of the bedrooms plus an additional toilet. The TV reception isn't great but there is Freeview with lots of apps including BBC, ITV and Netflix. Free parking is included but make sure that you contact Sarah with details of your registration number. We have received parking fines but Sarah is sorting this out for us. The Crab and Lobster in Staithes is definitely worth a visit for super food and good atmosphere. We went to the Captain Cook but walked out as after waiting for 10 minutes no one came to us.
