Hinderwell is a small, lively village close to the fishing villages of Staithes and Runswick Bay. Hinderwell was mentioned in the Domesday Book as Hildrewell, a derivation of Hilda's Well, named for the Abbess of Whitby who was travelling through the parish in a drought and was asked to intercede. Her prayers were answered when a spring appeared near the sight of the present Parish Church, and this spring has continued to flow from the hillside to this day. The village is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful countryside, and walks, cycle ways, gliding, horse riding and fishing are all well catered for in the area. Whitby is seven miles away and the town has a rich and varied heritage waiting to be discovered. Thi

Well equipped kitchen. One shower room was rather small and beds would have been better as king size rather than double. Lovely open fire and sufficient seating in lounge. Ideally located between two pubs (both doing food and cask ales) with a chip shop and butchers opposite. Not far from picturesque Runswick Bay and accessible for Staithes and Saltburn on Sea.

Plenty of space for 6 people to get along without getting on top of each other. Our bed was super comfortable. Large room and having ensuite shower - lovely. Superb kitchen and dining room, lots of books and games available. My only 3 observations are - that lounge is so very dark even in daylight hours, perhaps a couple of walls in a lighter colour. Secondly instructions for the cooker. Found it a bit confusing to use but that's not the end of the world. Freezer a bit knackered

The internet listing doesn't justify the property. The whole family enjoyed the property and a great location for nearby beaches. Just one negative the water temperature was very hot especially in the kitchen. We would like to stay there again. Highly recommended.
