Hinderwell is a village with excellent local amenities including a good butchers/convenience store, 2 local pubs and a tea room all just a short walk from your doorstep. This quaint village is just a mile from the picturesque fishing village of Runswick Bay, which boasts a sandy cove with opportunities for fossil hunting and rock pooling, yet right in the North York Moors National Park. Head north or south on the Cleveland Way and visit some of the amazing coastal gems such as Staithes, Robin Hood’s Bay, Sandsend or Saltburn.
The bustling town of Whitby is a short drive or bus ride away where you will find so much to see and do. There is a 3 mile stretch of golden sandy beach, traditional amusement arcades and regular boat trips out to sea in search of minke whales and dolphins. There are many bistros and restaurants ranging from award-winning fish and chips to fine dining as well as tea rooms, coffee shops and pubs with live music. If you’re feeling energetic why not attempt the 199 steps up to the abbey that towers over Whitby.
You can drive inland to enjoy the natural beauty and some amazing heritage sites such as abbeys and monasteries within the National Park or catch a steam train as it snakes through the lush countryside to destinations such as Goathland and Pickering. There is a huge diversity of things to do in the area from surfing to golfing, and there is an abundance of walking and cycling tracks. The more traditional seaside town of Scarborough is just along the coast with its two huge bays, and the walled city of York is well worth a visit. Beach ¾ mile. Shop 50 yards, pub and restaurant 20 yards.

We had an amazing time at Oakridge, lots of space, big garden, games for the grandkids, huge kitchen and utility room, big bedrooms. We spent time on the beach at Runswick Bay, Saltburn and Sandness, got the local bus into Whitby and attended a wonderful country fair at Egton.Great local butchers and Co-op is 5 mins drive.Loved our weeks stay and would recommend to large families. As an added bonus, I made plum jam for the family from the tree in the garden 😋👍🏻

This accommodation itself is good it’s spacious and the enclosed garden is lovely, however, the fixtures and fittings are very cheap and dated. The description is misleading the downstairs bedroom only has a WC and washbasin. The shower’s are difficult to get the right temperature, the toilet in the main bathroom doesn’t flush properly and won’t flush if there’s running water elsewhere in the house. The downstairs bedroom has a cupboard with an elastic band holding it together so that will give you an idea of what to expect.I did query the previous comments about the hot tub and we were reassured that a couple of jets weren’t working so we expected that but what we found was an outdated dilapidated hot tub that needs replacing. We are currently staying in a lovely cottage booked through Cottages.co.uk and we paid less and it is absolutely beautiful the fixtures and fittings are luxurious and the hot tub state of the art!Don’t waste your money on this unloved house.
