About this property

The Garden Cottage is a well-presented holiday home resting in the beautiful village of Crossmaglen, near the Dublin to Belfast motorway and boasting views of Slieve Gullion Mountain, in County Armagh. With parking, a garden, and all the home comforts you need for a self-catering stay, this holiday home provides the ideal getaway for a family or group of friends to explore all that Northern Ireland has to offer, with easy access to South Armagh, North Louth, and Monaghan. Arrive onto the large enclosed patio at the front of the house with plenty of space providing the convenience of parking and easy unpacking. A few steps to the front door, you'll find yourself in the welcoming hallway which leads to an inviting sitting room with plenty of seating for up to 10 guests; a perfect place to unwind and spend time relaxing after a busy day exploring. Continue into the spacious kitchen/diner where you'll find all the amenities you'll need to cook up your favourite meal for the whole family. A utility space also offers a convenient washer and dryer to keep your clothes fresh. From here, you can sit down together at the dining table that seats 10 and enjoy your home-cooked meals, or venture back outside and dine alfresco. Continue on the ground floor into one of three double bedrooms, or a convenient single, or climb the stairs to find the remaining two bedrooms, both family rooms with a double and a single in each, allowing for flexibility for a variety of party makeups! Finishing off the interior is a ground-floor bathroom, where you can prepare for a day of exploring. The surrounding countryside is intertwined with history; to brush up on this local history, visit Roche Castle ruins, Killeavy Castle, or Cu Chulainn's Castle and explore the gorgeous environs of all three; there is also County Museum Dundalk for an afternoon of culture. There are a wealth of historical sites in the area, as well as some with cultural importance such as Anamar Court Cairn, Bernish Viewpoint, Ring of Gullion, Creggan Graveyard with ONeill burial tomb, Hill of Faughart, and the Patrick Kavanagh Centre. Within easy reach, avid anglers will be pleased to find fishing at Kiltybane lake, while the golfers of your group may want to head to Ashfield Golf Club for a round at the 18-hole course. For more leisurely walks, there are plenty of parks to choose from, including Stephenstown Pond Nature Park, Lough Muckno Leisure Park, and the Slieve Gullion Forest Park which hosts Giant's Lair and an Adventure Play area. If walking along the seaside is more your style, visit the historic villages of Blackrock and Carlingford; you can also catch the ferry from Carlingford Lough to Newcastle and Kilkeel. For a more challenging day of cycling or hiking, choose from The Cooley Mountains, Mourne Mountains, and Rostrevor Mountain Bike Trails for your fun-filled and active day out. A scenic drive will take you to Banbridge, where you can visit a studio and immerse you in the world of Game of Thrones. For an evening out, explore the local bars and pubs in Crossmaglen, or for a more dynamic night, visit the bigger town of Dundalk, which has a myriad of bars and restaurants to pick from. Just over an hour away southerly is Dublin, famous for its Guinness brewery and Kilmainham Gaol; along with the warm welcome, it is a terrific way to spend a day. Just over an hour northerly, you can find the inviting city of Belfast, where you can find an abundance of shops and restaurants and yet more historical attractions. Finally, on your return to The Garden Cottage from Dublin, you can break the drive by visiting the Neolithic (5,200 year old) Passage Tomb at Newgrange. Enjoy a peaceful break at The Garden Cottage.
