Guests generally appreciate the South Stables - House Of Dun for its beautiful estate, friendly staff, and comfortable accommodation. The property's location offers stunning walks and a peaceful atmosphere, with the added charm of wildlife spectacles. While some minor maintenance issues and kitchen equipment suggestions are noted, the overall experience is highly regarded, with many guests planning return visits.
The property consistently receives high praise for its cleanliness, with numerous reviews mentioning it was spotless upon arrival. Only one comment suggested the practicality of the carpet choice, but this did not detract from the overall perception of cleanliness.
The location is celebrated for its tranquility, beautiful estate, and proximity to nature reserves and beaches. Some guests found the property isolated, but this aspect was also seen as a positive by others, contributing to the peaceful environment.
Comfort is highly rated, with guests finding the beds comfy and the property warm. A few guests noted the preference for double beds over singles and the practicality of the carpet, which suggests room for improvement in this category.
Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and good quality furnishings. However, several reviews mention a need for additional kitchenware and minor maintenance issues, indicating some areas for enhancement.
While guests mention the friendliness of staff and some instances of treats for pets, there is insufficient information to assess the consistency of thoughtful gestures such as welcome packs or gifts. Therefore, it cannot be guaranteed that such amenities will be provided to all guests.

The property was comfortable and roomy with everything needed. Great views from the master bedroom. The staff were really friendly and Henry our Labrador enjoyed the woodland walks and extra treats including doggie ice cream from the cafe. Great location near to beautiful beaches.

Set within the House of Dun it is fabulous especially at this time of year with autumn colours and 1000s of geese flying to and from Montrose Basin. The gardens are lovely - never managed to grow nerines like them - a line of vibrant pink. The stunning beaches of St Cyrus and Lunan Bay are close by and there is a huge amount to discover whether you are interested in castles, museums, Pictish stones, or whiskey. The tour around Fettercairn was the best weâd been on. And the displays at the House of Dun are excellent and the house tour led byâWilliamâ brilliant. Only once caught in storms in the autumn in 2023. Booked for next year! Always good to but plants to take back and add to our garden as a reminder! The flat is comfortable and it is good to have a washing machine after any muddy walks! The only extra we would like are extra bedside lamps and an extra light in the lounge. Not a fan of flat trays but thatâs just being picky!

The accommodation in the south Stables exceeded our expectations, the furnishings were to a high standard with extremely comfortable beds, very clean with good information about the surrounding area. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, a free tour of the house was a nice bonus. To have the grounds to ourselves when the House was closed was magical. The gardens are beautiful even in mid September the flowers were beautiful. We would have no hesitation in staying again.
