Kilmartin View is a beautifully reimagined lodge located just outside the village of Kilmartin, perfect for families, couples and individual's who want to delve deeper into Argyll and Bute and all it has to offer and of course the hidden gems. The lodge is located on a working farm sheep and beef cattle, with ample parking and a wee shed. The large patio with table and chairs is a perfect spot to enjoy your favourite refreshment in this mystical atmospheric glen with far reaching views of the countryside. There is a warm welcoming space just inside the front door for coats, hats and footwear, which leads into the vestibule where you will find plenty of information on the area, a wine fridge and a space for extra shopping or space for a dog bed. Through the door is a large open plan living are, featuring an-ample equipped kitchen, a sociable dining table for group meals, and an inviting lounge, which sits a large corner sofa, TV and reading chair, all thoughtfully decorated in a bright space. Take your pick between the gorgeous three bedrooms, with plenty of storage, comprising a double, twin and a single, each window framing magical views of the countryside. Serving the bedrooms is a fabulous shower room which houses sleek furnishings and a spacious walk in shower, ideal for a refreshing morning rinse. This idyllic countryside is perfect for walkers, cyclists, golfers, kayakers, wild swimming, paddle boarding photographers, keen anglers, wildflower and wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers offering lots of seasonal and migratory land and sea birds. Kilmartin View stands in a most attractive glen, which is famous for a number of impressive historical sites, the rich legacy from our ancestors.The many layers of history that this glen has to offer can be found on your doorstep, make your way to Netherlargie burial cairn. Gaze at the Nether Largie, the huge five standing stones, there are many theories behind their existence, its most possible that they formed a lunar observatory which marks where the moon will rise and set in its cycle. Further along, a 5000 year old stone sequence called Temple Wood is a real point of interest. The Rock art in this glen is fascinating its like an open air theatre with the cup and ring markings and the recently significant discovery of Deer Antlers carved into the rock approx between 3,000 to 5,000 years old, also the first animal rock art to be found in Scotland. Make your way to Kilmartin Village and view Medieval Stones housed in the graveyard and evidence of the knights of the templar being active in this area.Further along is the more recent 16th century Carnassarie Castle, climb to the top and take in views of the whole of the Glen from its imposing position. The meandering River ADD runs through the farm and its possible to walk or drive to the historic site of Dunadd, there is an impressive footprint carved into rock at the top where the kings were once crowned. Take a trip to the bird hide at Bellanoch bridge and watch out for the Osprey heading back to its nest with its catch after fishing on the River Add, Ducks, Geese, Swans, herons, whimbrels, sand martins, Oyster Catchers and the playful family of Otters can be found here. From Bellanoch Bridge, you can access the Crinan Canal, Britain's most Beautiful shortcut”where you can walk, or cycle to Crinan canal basin for coffee. An award winning restaurant is nearby, with further opportunities for refreshments and food at Cairnbaan, Lochgilphead, and Ardrishaig. Visit the beavers at Knapdale forest, book an evening walk to see these creatures that come out at dusk constructing their lodges from trees, creating damns and shaping the environment around them. Our farm is always trying to improve its green credentials, at present we are working with Heritage Scotland to increase the number of endangered butterflies such as the Marsh Fritillary by changing some farming methods, also a large woodland project planting more native trees which are less harmful to the Environment. Within easy reach is the soft sands at Crinan Ferry beach, enjoy a day out here, this is a designated area of special scientific interest as it best represents the areas natural heritage in terms of plants, animals and geomorphology. Enjoy a coastal trip from Crinan harbour with Venture West to the Gulf of Corryvrechan where you will be amazed by the tidal whirlpools through the passage between Isle of Jura and Scarba, you may also see seals, porpoise, golden eagles, minke whales and dolphins, Sandy as your skipper is very knowledgeable and will point out the small islands and their history on your adventure, you will also get a glimpse of the house of George Orwell famous author of the books Animal farm and 1984. Visit our National Nature reserves such as Taynish a remarkable northern rainforest, or nearer to your cottage is Mhoine Mhor the Gaelic name for Big Moss, with its natural flora and fauna, be dazzled by the dragonflies, there is plenty of suitable trials for all the family and picnic benches in these Nature Reserves. Visit the many Glorious gardens in this area, the colours are a feast for the eyes and the aroma in the Gardens is just magnificent and always changing. Take the new route 66 to Campbelltown,via the quaint fishing village of Tarbert, visit Gin distilleries and Whisky distilleries on your journey as well as the famous Westport surfing beach. Another worth while visit is exploring Loch Awe.where you will finally end up at Dalmally, Visit Cruachan Power station, a marvel of modern engineering in a breath taking location on the slopes of Ben Cruachan. St Conans Church nearby has been voted by Architects in Scotland as one of the top ten buildings in Scotland over 100 years old.Kilchurn castle is also in this area and is one of thee most photographed castles in Scotland. If you fancy hill climbing and more scenic areas visit Glencoe. There are a lot of activities at Glencoe such as mountain biking, and Munro bagging. Take a chair lift to the top at Glencoe resort and enjoy the stunning views, of course during the winter months enjoy a day skiing on the mountains. Don't miss Ben Nevis further along, Ben Nevis the highest mountain in Great Britain follow the road back to Kilmartin view via Oban. There is great opportunity at Kilmartin View to book a trip to our Local Islands, Jura, Islay, Luing, Kerrera Easdale, Gigha, Arran Mull and Iona are all possible for a fantastic day trip. The area is no strangers to film crews, with two James Bond Movies film in the area, Downtown Abbey and East Enders episodes filmed in the area to name a few.
