Boatman’s Cottage is a charming croft cottage sitting in a sheltered woodland setting with a lovely outlook over Loch Awe and to the mountains beyond. It sits amongst the oak woods in the grounds of Inverinan Mor, a small country estate on Loch Awe which is one of Scotland’s most spectacular lochs, 23 miles long and runs south west from the village of Lochawe to Ford near the west coast.
Sympathetically renovated to combine the charms of the old cottage with its two-foot thick walls, with a modern luxurious finish throughout, Boatman’s Cottage is double glazed, highly insulated and well heated cosily providing a balance of luxury and comfort while maintaining the character, charm and feel of a highland cottage in a quiet woodland location. The cosy living room enjoys fantastic views through an almost completely glazed frontage with patio doors opening onto a terraced seating area. The master bedroom enjoys a loch view and has a luxurious en-suite bathroom complete with double bathtub and walk-in shower. An additional single room with en-suite to the rear of the cottage serves for an additional guest or as a dressing room. The gardens and grounds of Inverinan Mor Estate extend to approximately 37 acres and include a delightful small loch (Hamish’s Loch) with wild brown trout, which is sheltered by a native oak wood.
In front of the house, the woodland land slopes down to the loch side, accessed by a narrow track which leads to pretty bay with an ancient pier, ideal for wild swimming and with fishing rights extending to 400m along the lochside together with a slipway for easy launch of boat, canoe and paddleboard. Nearby village of Dalavich is well-served for visitors with a community centre offering bar and restaurant facilities, as well as a small licensed grocery store, café, takeaway and post office, bike and canoe hire. Loch Aweside is a beautiful, peaceful area, offering opportunities to view a wide range of wildlife. Loch Awe is Scotland longest fresh water loch and has superb fishing, enchanted islands and deserted castles to explore. The area provides an amazing natural playground. There are forests, burns, rivers, castles, mountains and lochs to explore and enjoy with many walking and cycling routes.
A world renowned destination for anglers, Loch Awe provides one of the best opportunities for wildlife watching with Pine Marten and Red Squirrel and Osprey often seen nearby. You can also see Golden Eagle and Sea Eagle, Red and Roe Deer and an unparalleled amount of bird life. Within 30 minutes’ drive along the network of single track roads through stunning scenery, you can reach the villages of Kilchrenan, Ford, Kilmelford and Taynuilt, all with village shops, pubs, and cafés. Boatman’s Cottage is an amazing place, tranquil and teeming with wildlife. The cottage is very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. The hosts are very friendly and nothing would be too much trouble should you need them. The welcome basket was unbelievably generous. With walks on the estate to keep you entertained, you can walk along to a small loch which has a rowing boat available for use and there is also a short walk down to Loch Awe shoreline itself. Oban is about a 45 minute drive away and is well worth a visit. Overall, a very pleasant and relaxing place, we hope to return.
