About this property

Unique detached 19th century lodge cottage in a picturesque location on the edge of the popular Cally Woods and Fleet Forest. A short rough unmade track leads to this idyllic rural cottage making it a peaceful retreat, yet only 2 miles from Gatehouse of Fleet with its shops, crafts and restaurants.

The cottage has views of the rolling hills of Galloway with an enclosed terraced garden to the back. To the front, there is a woodland garden with bridges over a small stream, and a large wildlife pond, with a deck for relaxing. To help you enjoy your stay, books, local maps and information, games and toys are provided.

The woods are a haven for wildlife including bats, red squirrels, badgers and deer which can all be seen from the cottage windows. The cottage is ideally situated for walking and cycling with trails and paths, which lead through the forest and down to the coast, literally right on your doorstep! Cycle hire is available in nearby Castle Douglas. The large sandy beaches at Sandgreen and Carrick, with its rock pools, are nearby and make for great days on the beach for family outings. The area also has plenty of opportunity for golf, riding, water sports on Loch Ken and fishing (lake and sea) all within easy reach.

Bar Hill Lodge provided a perfect secluded getaway location and was heaven for the dogs. The property itself has loads of charm and is welcoming, comfortable and well equipped. Lots of birds and wildlife to enjoy, keeping all the feeders full was an enjoyable daily job. Woodpeckers galore!

Cottage much better than expected. Lots of character. Very comfortable. Right in the woods! Walks from the doorstep and plenty wildlife. Only downside was long rough access track, but cottage and setting made up for this.

Enjoyed the week and cottage is warm and cosy, it is in need of decorating and a really good clean as it was not overly clean.
