Appletree Cottage is one of two adjoining cottages which have been converted to provide a tranquil hideaway overlooking the upper reaches of the Urr Estuary. The careful design of the conversion ensures that guests of both properties retain their privacy while also being close to the owners’ house. Peace and quiet are ensured by the surrounding 20 acres of privately owned ancient woodland enjoy have peaceful walks for guests to enjoy and give the chance to cheeky red squirrels, shy deer and badgers that make the woods their home.

The nearby Solway Coast has an abundance of wildlife including red squirrels, badgers bats and deer, not forgetting all the birds and water fowl. Rough Island which lies just off the coast at Rockcliffe is a bird sanctuary and can be reached by walking over the mudflats at low tide. The warning cries of the many varieties of gulls during nesting time remind visitors of the strict rules against disturbing the birds. The rspb Mersehead Reserve has lovely walks and a fabulous beach to enjoy at any time of year and in winter the chattering geese will fascinate and cause amazement at the sky blackening numbers when they all take wing at the same time!

The nearby village of Kippford is a popular destination with two waterside pubs for meals out whilst watching the sailing and fishing boats on the Urr. The larger towns of Dalbeatie and Castle Douglas both have a wide range of restaurants and independent shops selling local produce and goods.

The wide range of outdoor activities includes numerous golf courses with the friendly 9-hole course just minutes from the cottage along the road at Kippford, moving up in challenge to the pretty Colvend 18 hole course and a step up further to the links championship level course course of Southerness. If you want a walk without a white ball there is a wide choice of routes including coastal beach and cliff top paths, woodland walks in the local Dalbeattie Town woods and Galloway Forest Park, which is also the original Dark Sky Park for star gazing in the UK. Mountain bike routes are also available pretty much from the doorstep with access to the 7stanes Dalbeattie Woods trail less than mile and other trails at Mabie and Kirroughtree all a relatively short drive away from the cottage

Ground Floor: One step up into Entrance Hall with stair lift to first floor, Dining room, leading to Sun room with access to small courtyard area; Cloakroom with WC and wash hand basin. Fully fitted Kitchen; Two steps up to large Lounge with Wood Burning Stove (initial supply of logs provided);

First floor: Master bedroom with King size 'zip and link' bed (which can become 2 single beds) and an ensuite Bathroom with Bath fitted with a hydraulic bath-chair, WC and wash basin; Double bedroom with ensuite shower room.
