Dalbeattie Forest is within 5 minute drive away with a stage of the Forestry Commission 7Stanes Mountain Bike Trail, with others a little further afield at Mabie Forest, Dumfries and Kirroughtree at Newton Stewart. The cottage is an ideal base for exploring the Solway Coast with rspb Mersehead nearby and WWT Caerlaverock within a short drive. NTS Threave Gardens and Estate at Castle Douglas and NTS Broughton House in Kirkcudbright are both well worth a visit, as is Historic Scotland's Threave Castle.

Loved staying at st marys cottage,really quirky cottage,loved the layout and the homelyness.The location was great too,perfect for doggie walks.Would love to stay there again. It just needs a right good deep clean.
