About this property

Portling View all on the first floor level, sits in a beautiful elevated position with superb views to the Solway Firth and lake District beyond, there is easy access to the quiet secluded beach at Portling which leads round to Sandyhills Bay.

Set in the quiet hamlet of Portling the apartment is within easy reach of other popular destinations on the Solway Firth including Sandyhills beach, Colvend, Rockcliffe and Kippford. There is a restaurant and bar at Sandyhills and a village shop and cafe at Colvend; Kippford has two popular pubs both serving food and also a tea room. The bustling village of Kippford is a sailing centre which ensures that there is always something to watch while taking sustenance at one of the two hostelries.

South Scotland is famous for its beautiful scenery and surprisingly mild climate due to the effects of the Gulf Stream. The area abounds with Scottish culture and history with too many sites to mention. Three which should not be missed would include Sweetheart Abbey at New Abbey, Threave Gardens and Castle at Castle Douglas and slightly further afield Logan Botanic Gardens together with the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse. The area also has superb outdoor recreational facilities and opportunities with wildlife and bird watching almost wherever you are and in particular the rspb Mersehead Reserve at Southwick, Galloway Forest Park for both wildlife watching and also walking and mountain biking. Those looking for testing bike trails can enjoy the Forestry Commission 7Stanes Routes with the chance to try a different trail on every day of the week! Sea and loch sailing is available in the near vicinity with the principal base being Kippford for sea sailing whilst Loch Ken provides opportunities for sailing and water skiing. Throughout the area there is sea, loch and course fishing and also, of course, golf with courses to suit all abilities with the charming Colvend course being with in walking distance and only slightly further afield is the challenging Southerness Championship Links Course (Seven miles).

Portling View, with its comfortable and well laid out accommodation including a lovely small Juliet balcony with panoramic view out onto the Solway Firth provides a truly exceptional holiday location.

Beautiful, peaceful location. The accommodation was comfortable and well equipped with a lovely garden to sit in. I'd go back there.

Stayed four nights in February 2026; me, my two adult daughters and 11 and 13 year-old grandchildren. Portling view accommodated all of us with ease. It is well furnished and comfortable and the kitchen equipped with everything we needed (my daughters enjoy cooking and are quite demanding in terms of utensils). The house is pleasantly situated, one of a group of three and forms part of a larger house. There are walks along the coast, easily reached from the front door, and plenty of activities to choose from in the surrounding area, including self-led and group off-road cycling in various locations and lots of different road cycling option. We spent a day at the Galloway Activity Centre on Loch Ken enjoying the climbing wall, zip line and laser tag . Tesco delivers and if you need something urgently, there's a convenience store a couple of miles away in Colvend. We had a great time!
