Guests say

Kouloura cottage in Dumfries is well-received for its large, secure garden and proximity to the beach, making it ideal for dog owners and beach lovers. The property offers a cosy atmosphere with an open fire and conservatories, although some guests found the space smaller than expected. The owner's friendliness and helpfulness are frequently praised, contributing to a pleasant stay.

The majority of guests found the cottage to be clean, with spotless bedding and well-maintained facilities. One review mentioned a need to clean the fridge, but this seems to be an isolated incident.

The location is highly appreciated for its short walk to the beach and local amenities. However, some guests were disappointed with the advertised sea view and the proximity to caravans and other properties.

Guests generally found the cottage comfortable, with a cosy open fire and pleasant conservatories. Some reviews, however, mentioned that the seating and beds could be improved for greater comfort.

While the reviews are positive about the garden, conservatories, and the inclusion of a Smart TV and broadband, there are mixed comments about the maintenance of facilities like the fridge and kettle, and some mention of lacking Wi-Fi. Due to the mixed nature of the feedback, a definitive score cannot be provided.

The owner's thoughtfulness is highlighted through their warm welcome, informative guidance, and occasional gifts such as wine and chocolates. However, it should be noted that such gifts are a kind gesture and may not be a consistent offering for all stays.

There are also three fabulous pubs nearby, two of which serve food.

Established in the late 18th century, the village of Southerness looks out over the Solway Firth and forms part of the Colvend coast. Home to two pubs and a village store, the seaside village also boasts two miles of sandy beaches with dunes, rock pools and warm Gulf Stream waters, as well as one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland. Built in 1748, this beacon was one of the first in the country. Nearby Criffel Hill is an impressive 569m tall and offers varied walks with wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary. The Southerness Championship Golf Course is definitely worth playing for its panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District and the Galloway Hills.
