Flag Cottage is a cosy coastal cottage offering fabulous views over the Nith Estuary and the Solway Firth, all the way to the Lake District with easy access to Caresethorn beach and just a short walk to the fabulous gardens at Arbigland House.
The area surrounding the cottage is a haven for wildlife and sits on the migratory route of thousands of Svalbard Barnacle Geese who winter along the Solway. A 10 minute drive west takes you to rspb Mersehead Reserve with its public bird hides and endless sandy beach, whilst 40 minutes in the opposite direction brings you to Caerlaverock Wildlfowl & Wetland Trust Reserve, a 1500-acre reserve including farmland, salt marsh and freshwater wetland habitats where filming for BBC 2 Winter Watch has taken place.
The cottage has a quiet and private location in Carsethorn village, which has a popular pub for eating out whilst waiting the changing colours over the Nith and Solway, Dumfries, the Capital of South West Scotland with its strong links to Robert the Bruce and also Rabbie Burns is only a 20 minute drive to Dumfries; for those who enjoy a faster pace of life, the whole region of Dumfries & Galloway is a great location for outdoor activities and excellent for getting a blast of fresh air to revitalise yourself!

The cottage has everything you would need for a self catering holiday. The beds were so comfortable. I took my iPad so was able to go to bed and watch a film or carry on with a series. Very relaxing.

the views from the garden were outstanding. the garden was also a very pleasant place to spend time. Unfortunately the cottage was tired and not very well cleaned the bed in the smaller bedroom collapsed on the first night a hasty repair made it usable, the bedside lamp was damaged and would not sit without falling over,the shower drain over flowed and had to be unblocked. The rugs had snail trails all over them. All pots and plates had to be washed before use, water leaked into the conservatory from the roof and down the walls behind the electric heaters obvious leaks in both bedrooms as you could see the water marks, parking was difficult. and lastly the sockets behind the tv were dodgy ...... thank you
