Guests say

Quare Place is a spacious and well-equipped cottage in Dumfries, praised for its comfort, stunning sea views, and suitability for large groups or families. The property's proximity to the beach and local amenities, along with its peaceful setting despite nearby holiday parks, makes it an ideal base for exploring the area. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches, such as a Christmas tree during festive stays.

The property generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, though some guests noted minor issues such as cobwebs and a less thorough clean due to a last-minute booking. These seem to be exceptions rather than the rule.

The location is highly praised for its easy access to the beach, local restaurants, and attractions in Dumfries and Galloway. The quiet yet convenient setting is consistently appreciated by guests.

Guests find the property comfortable, with special mentions of the cosy atmosphere, comfortable beds, and spacious rooms. The presence of ground floor bedrooms and bathrooms for those with mobility issues adds to the comfort level.

The facilities are well-regarded, especially the well-stocked kitchen and the provision of towels. However, some guests experienced issues with TV reception, hot water supply, and the tumble dryer, which affects the score.

While guests mention thoughtful gestures such as a Christmas tree and the owner's check-in message, there is no consistent reference to gifts or special amenities that would warrant a score in this category.

Whatever you do during your next stay in Scotland, do it from the base of Quare Place.

Southerness is a small coastal village established in the late 18th century, which looks out over the Solway Firth, and forms part of the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera'. Home to three pubs, two village stores, a leisure centre with a pool at Parkdean and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools and Gulf Stream warmed waters, and one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, built in 1748, it has everything you will need for a relaxing holiday. The nearby Criffel Hill rises to 569m, offers wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary below, and provides great walking opportunities. The Southerness Championship Golf Course adjoins the village and offers panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south and the Galloway Hills to the west. A great location, with something to keep everybody occupied.

Central to lots of places to visit, including Dumfries, Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie. We went on lots of walks including Rockford and Kipworth and coastal walks . We also visited the bird sanctuary. A lovely part of the country .

We particularly enjoyed the wood burning stove. We had people with mobility issues so the bedrooms on the ground floor with walk in showers were perfect. In the winter it is a long haul to the nearest shops but a pleasant drive!

The bedroom doors have electronic keypad locks which we had no need for but shortly after we arrived one of these locks activated on a bedroom we were using locking my companion out with all her personal effects inside. I rang the two numbers for the owners, one which stated 24 hours and got leave a message on one and the other was being used. After an hour still the same so I rang Sykes. Spoke to Jemma who was very helpful but got exactly the same and she also emailed and texted. I tried many times through the night and around 0700 the next morning got a text and eventually a WhatsApp call. Within minutes I was given the codes and door opened. The owners and their son had gone on holiday to Thailand (I think) and had made no alternative arrangements for any emergency contact. The son who I spoke to gave me ridiculous reasons about the time differences and not wanting to wake his father up because he is seventy years old. I am seventy seven and my companion is ninety four. You have to have very little common sense or no thought for your customers to travel half way around the world and think you can be contactable 24/7.
