Nestled in the peaceful coastal village of Southerness, Swallow Cottage offers a stylish single storey escape just moments from the golden sands of Southerness Beach and a short distance from the incredible RSPB Mersehead Nature Reserve. With enclosed gardens, modern interiors and a relaxed coastal feel, it’s the perfect retreat for couples or families looking to unwind by the sea.
The cottage welcomes you into a contemporary dining room with rustic wooden touches, flowing into a well equipped kitchen. Large patio doors open onto the generous garden, inviting guests to enjoy alfresco meals and long summer evenings outdoors.
After a day exploring the coast, settle into the cosy sitting room for a film night, or retreat to the bright conservatory snug—an ideal spot for reading, morning coffee or simply enjoying the garden views. A sleek shower room and two comfortable bedrooms (a double and a twin) complete the accommodation.
Southerness offers a friendly selection of pubs, cafés and restaurants, along with scenic coastal walks, the historic lighthouse and the popular golf club. Guests can explore nearby beaches such as Powillimount, discover local wildlife at Mersehead, or enjoy day trips to Dumfries, Caerlaverock Castle and the Galloway Forest Park.
Whether you’re here for beach walks, birdwatching, or simply relaxing in a peaceful coastal setting, Swallow Cottage provides the perfect base for your Dumfries & Galloway adventure.
Southerness is a small coastal village established in the late 18th century, which looks out over the Solway Firth, and forms part of the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera'. Home to three pubs, two village stores, a leisure centre with a pool at Parkdean and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools and Gulf Stream warmed waters, and one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, built in 1748, it has everything you will need for a relaxing holiday. The nearby Criffel Hill rises to 569m, offers wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary below, and provides great walking opportunities. The Southerness Championship Golf Course adjoins the village and offers panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south and the Galloway Hills to the west. A great location, with something to keep everybody occupied.
