Southerness is a small seaside community on the Colvend coast, one of the best lengths of shoreline on the 'Scottish Riviera.' It was founded in the late 18th century and looks out over the Solway Firth. It has all you need for a pleasant holiday, including three pubs, two village stores, a leisure complex with a pool at Parkdean, and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools, and Gulf Stream warmed waters, as well as one of Scotland's oldest lighthouses, established in 1748. The neighbouring Criffel Hill, which climbs to 569m and gives superb trekking options, has wonderful views of the farms and sands of the Nith Estuary below. The Southerness Championship Golf Course is located adjacent to the settlement and provides panoramic views of the Solway Firth, Cumbrian Lake District to the south, and Galloway Hills to the west. A fantastic location with plenty to keep everyone entertained.
