Stroll through the winding streets where you can visit the famous Broughton House, once home to E. A. Hornel. Kirkcudbright is known as the ’artists’ town’ having hosted generations of painters, craft makers and artisans – a culture still thriving today. Throughout the year visitors are attracted to the town as there are a diverse range of annual events from farmers’ markets, the country fair, the Jazz Festival, Festival of Light, the Riding of the Marches and of course the spectacular Tattoo, an event not to be missed. With some lovely little niche shops and fabulous places to eat, the town is an ideal location to base yourself while exploring this delightful area. A must for children and adults alike is a visit to the Dark Sky Planetarium, a state of the art interactive science and space themed experience for everyone, or you just may prefer the Dark Art Gin Distillery next door! Warmed by the Gulf Stream there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens (National Trust). What a great location in this beautiful artists town. So much going on and a gallery on every corner. Cottage is roomy and comfortable with a huge bed! A stone's throw from the harbour and and free parking everywhere. Ate in the Garrett and Skully and Scran (do book). Vintage Fayre, Tattoo, Farmers Market and Vintage Car Show were on when we were there, so plenty to keep us entertained.
