Merton Garden Cottage is praised for its peaceful, private location and cosy atmosphere, with a well-equipped kitchen and a comfortable bed. The woodburner and rural views add to its charm. Some guests note a decline in decor and maintenance, but the cottage remains a favoured spot for its tranquillity and proximity to Newton Stewart.
The reviews do not directly comment on cleanliness, but the mention of a 'musty smell' suggests some issues, while the positive remarks about the cottage being 'lovely' and 'clean' indicate general satisfaction.
The location is highly praised for its peace, tranquillity, and proximity to Newton Stewart and Galloway Forest Park, making it an idyllic spot for guests seeking a quiet retreat.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, especially with the woodburner. However, one guest mentioned an uncomfortable downstairs bed, suggesting room for improvement.
The cottage is described as well-equipped and spacious, but there are several mentions of maintenance issues, such as decor needing updating, signs of damp, and unreliable wifi, which affect the overall experience.
There are no mentions of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts, so it is not possible to provide a score in this category.
A cosy cottage in a peaceful, secluded location and with fine views of the surrounding countryside.

We had a lovely holiday in the cottage. It was well equiped for our needs and the log fire was a cosy feature. Be prepared to spend a lot of money on electricity during your stay, being a £1 or £2 coin meter especially in the colder months. We spent about £100 in the week (mid September). We also had no issues with the TV reception or wifi contrary to other guests' reviews. We would consider staying again. Note to agency: the photo of the kitchen should be updated, some of the appliances have been modernised.

Lovely cottage in nice location for Galloway Forest Park, Glen Trool and a a five minute car ride from Newton Stewart, which has 2 supermarkets. The house is great value for money and very competitively priced and is equipped with everything you need. The house is spacious and ideal if you are taking dog/s, because it's well away from the main road and you can walk your pet in the grounds. I have been going to this lovely house for a few years now. If you like the peace and quiet of the countryside, Merton Garden cottage is the place to go.

Out holiday was wonderful, the location of the cottage wonderful, it was our third visit to garden cottage and sadly our last due to the decline in the property. Signs of damp in all rooms, paper coming off in places and decor wise the property is neglected, which is such a shame as it's a perfect holiday location.
