Kirroughtree Steading 2 is a charming, semi-detached cottage, and is situated in a quiet location with woodland walks being available direct from the door. It is also within walking distance to the market town of Newton Stewart, known as The Gateway to the Galloway Hills, with shops, cafés and restaurants.
Kirroughtree Steading 2 has been completely renovated in 2023 and is modern and bright throughout, and a really welcoming cottage to enjoy your holiday. Kirroughtree Steading 2 has a lovely bright living/dining room on the ground floor, with patio doors opening onto the private enclosed garden. Also on the ground floor is a modern kitchen and shower room, whilst on the first floor there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin, and a family bathroom.
The location is very popular with walkers and cyclists with Glentrool, Kirroughtree and the 7Stanes mountain bike trails nearby, as well as a great choice of golf courses for any enthusiasts wishing to partake. Situated on the edge of The Galloway Forest and Dark Sky Park, the cottage is ideally placed to explore the beauty of South West Scotland. There is an abundance of fishing, bird watching, beautiful and exotic gardens, many rocky coves, sandy beaches and quaint villages to explore along the Machars Peninsula. The towns of Castle Douglas, Scotland’s food town, and Kirkcudbright, the artists town, boast shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants, and are both within easy reach.

The cottage is a good size and very comfortable, in very nice condition and very clean. There's a pleasant. private garden at the back, and the location is quiet, with some great dark skies at night. It's about a 20 minute walk to Newton Stewart - there's a slightly shorter route down a rather overgrown lane behind the cottage onto the golf course. It was slightly spoilt by some surprising omissions, which would be very easy to rectify:The kitchen is generally well-equipped but there is no bread knife, and no sharpening steel (the kitchen knives were a bit blunt). No ice cube tray in the freezer, and no corkscrew meant our plans for drinks on the evening of arrival couldn't happen.There is no towel hanging space in either bathroom, which means nowhere to put damp towels between uses, and no shelf space in the bathrooms for personal items like shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, razors, etc. Other guests have mentioned this, too. There's no folder with basic notes, such as how to use the microwave and cooker, tv, or what recommendations there are for local facilities, etc. Every other cottage we've stayed in has had such a thing, so this was surprising.Finally, the TV is pretty much unwatchable - constant glitches and dropouts, and very slow to respond to the remote control, and not responsive at all to the on-set controls.But the accommodation is spacious, very nicely and cleanly decorated, and spotlessly clean. It's easy to reach from the A75, which makes getting around the area by car very straightforward - there's plenty of parking outside, too. The criticisms we have are quite small and could so easily be fixed that it's disappointing they are there at all, so we've deducted one star from our rating.

The access road could be a lot better.In such very hot weather and ice cube tray would have been useful.Thank you for a lovely stay.
