Stabling for horses (by prior arrangement). Bike store. Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking.. Willow Lodge is a wonderful, contemporary lodge with a modern interior and fabulous views over the Solway Firth. Located close to the village of Creetown and the town of Newton Stewart, there are plenty of shops restaurants, cafés and pubs to peruse or enjoy a tasty meal at.
Conveniently situated on the Creetown to Kirroughtree path, there is fantastic walking and cycling available directly from the lodge. Situated on a working sheep and dairy farm, stabling is also available if you choose to bring your horse along for his own holiday!
The lodge is nestled on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park, Britain’s largest forest park with three hundred square miles of wild beauty just waiting to be discovered. The park is home to tranquil valleys, rugged rock faces, forest, moorland, lochs and ancient woodland, as well as a huge diversity of wildlife including red and roe deer, wild goats and many birds of prey.
The park has also been awarded the status of one of only four Dark Sky Parks in the western world and when the sun sets enthusiasts come to wonder at the universe revealed above. Dalmellington at the far end of the park is home to the Scottish Dark Observatory well worth a visit. For outdoor enthusiasts, Galloway offers hill walking, mountain biking and water-sports, with many renowned gardens and ancient woodland to explore with a chance to glimpse the abundant wildlife.
The towns of Castle Douglas, known as ‘the food town’, Gatehouse of Fleet and Kirkcudbright are all within a short drive. Gatehouse of Fleet offers a wider range of places to eat and drink, and there are many attractions in and around the town including the ‘Mill on the Fleet’ Visitor Centre, Cardoness Castle and the popular Laggan Outdoor Activity Centre, home to one of Europe’s longest zip wires. Kirkcudbright, known as ‘the artists’ town’, attracts visitors throughout the year drawn by its harbour, historic high street and diverse range of annual events and visitor attractions. The popular programme of summer festivities culminates with the spectacular Tattoo, an event not to be missed. Beach 7 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The lodge is in a great position overlooking water, surrounded by fields, with lovely views. It is extremely well equipped with everything you need. It’s warm and cosy and is very clean, fresh and tidy. The hot tub is on whenever you want it. The beds are comfortable and there’s plenty of storage in the bedrooms. The owner is very welcoming and friendly. There’s loads of things to see and do in the area, from Neolithic sites to bird reserves, small coastal towns and Dark Sky forests. Beautiful. We really hope to come back soon.

The Lodge was in an excellent location - in open countryside. We saw deer, red kites and bats from the lodge..... Even though close to the A75 -this was not intrusive. Hot tub was a big hit. Good location to explore the area from Dumfries to Stranraer - with lots of history and nature. Lodge itself was well equipped and comfortable.

What an absolute gem of a place. The location is so peaceful and relaxing. The views of the surrounding countryside are superb. The lodge itself is comfortable,spacious and very well equipped. There are loads of places of interest to visit although they are quite spread out. We would definitely recommend this if you are looking for a relaxing break, but please don’t all rush to book as we would love to return! 🤣
