The small hamlet of Stairhaven, near Glenluce, once famous for smuggling, sits on the east side of Luce Bay in the Dumfries and Galloway region of Scotland. This tranquil spot has an abundance of wildlife and is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Stairhaven is within easy reach of the Galloway Forest, which offers walking and cycling, including the well know 7stanes cycle trail. The forest is also home to the Dark Sky Park, where you can see the night sky in all its glory. There are a number of golf courses close by, including the County 18 hole true links course, which is situated on the shores of Luce Bay. Fishing in the area is first class with opportunities to enjoy both loch and sea fishing, plus the River Luce is popular for salmon and trout fishing. As soon as I walked into the property I just loved it, I love the open plan space and the windows floor to ceiling in the sitting room, it was such a lovely space to just chill out and watch the sheep wandering round on the opposite hill, and the deer and rabbits wandering past at night. It felt like being enfolded in the beauty of the countryside, the peace and quiet was everything I wished for. The cottage was immaculately clean and warm and had absolutely everything we needed A beautiful space inside and out. A big thank-you to the owner Ian for letting us arrive earlier than stated. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property itâs a 10/10. Thank you.

Our little dog loved the underfloor heating. We enjoyed the coastal walk and the forest trail. Saw hares and buzzards. Had a day in Stranraer. Thank you for the wine.
