North Berwick (5 miles) has splendid sandy beaches, along with boat trips from the Scottish Seabird Centre to Bass Rock, home to the world’s largest colony of Northern gannets. History fans can explore Dirleton Castle and Gardens (2.5 miles) and Tantallon Castle (7 miles), while aviation enthusiasts can see Concorde at the National Museum of Flight (6 miles).
