Wander through the picturesque and historic village (Falkland is one of the key settings for the popular TV series Outlander) where quaint shops, traditional pubs, and charming tea rooms await. Immerse yourself in Falkland’s fascinating history by exploring the magnificent Falkland Palace, one of the National Trust for Scotland’s premier locations. This Renaissance gem with it’s Royal Chapel, historic paintings, tapestries and hangings, extensive gardens and grounds is well worth exploring. Then why not take an idyllic stroll along the West Port past the village fountain to the famous Falkland Estate. After just a few minutes you will enter an enchanting landscape where there are many country walks to choose from - pick up some maps and guides from the converted Stables building which now also houses a cafe and a small art gallery. Look up to East Lomond - or Falkland Hill as it’s known locally - with the knowledge of it’s Pictish past and the impressive Hillfort which once sat on top, dominating the local landscape.

A very spacious and lovely home situated in the heart of Falkland. Decorated to a high standard and well equipped (although we could not find a grater). We had a problem with the heating but they gave us heaters and arranged a plumber to fix it quickly. Great shops, cafe and local pub within a very short walk. We would defo come back!

We stayed 3 nights in Moncrieff House for a family wedding in Falkland. Storm Amy appeared on the first night, but the thickness of the walls in this 400 year old house meant we slept through the howling wind. Everything was very clean. The decor and furnishings were lovely, the beds really comfortable, the kitchen very well-equipped and all 3 bathrooms were spacious with plenty of hot water. Lots of space to socialize in - a dining kitchen, TV room and dining room as well as a chilled area in the upstairs sitting room. From all the first floor rooms the views over village roof-tops and across to Falkland Palace were charming. The good-sized garden is very private, and although the weather didn't allow for sitting out, it was obviously a sun-trap. The kind offer of a mid-day check out time was much appreciated as it was a very hectic weekend. If you're planning a break in this part of Fife, then a stay in Moncrieff House is a must!

Absolutely beautiful house in a wonderful little village that has everything you need - shops, tea rooms, restaurant, cafes... really was a great place. There are larger towns only 10 minutes away and a lot of Scotlands finest tourism is less than an hour in each direction. Will definitely be back!
