Smithy Cottage, Beauly

About this property

Tucked away in the quiet beauty of the Highlands, Smithy Cottage is a place to slow down and simply be. Wake to birdsong, sip coffee in a sun dappled courtyard, and spend evenings by the fire as the world feels miles away. With its cosy interiors, peaceful garden, and effortless charm, this is more than a cottage stay, it’s a chance to truly unwind.

Built in 1872, Smithy Cottage is a charming C-Listed Highland retreat that once formed part of the historic Aigas Estate as a traditional smithy cottage. Rich in character and beautifully preserved, it blends period charm with modern comfort, offering a peaceful escape surrounded by the natural beauty of the Scottish Highlands.

From the moment you arrive, there is a sense of calm. A welcoming porch supported by rustic timber columns, decorative bargeboarding, and elegant cast-iron detailing reflect the cottage's heritage, while inside, thoughtfully curated interiors create a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout.

Designed for relaxed Highland living, Smithy Cottage provides a wonderful base from which to slow down and reconnect with nature. The comfortable sitting room is perfect for unwinding after a day spent exploring, while the dining space invites leisurely meals and unhurried evenings together. Upstairs, charming bedrooms tucked beneath gently sloping ceilings offer a restful retreat, with crisp linens and soft furnishings creating a peaceful setting for a restorative night's sleep.

Outside, the private garden is a tranquil sanctuary. Enjoy a morning coffee among mature trees, settle down with a good book on a sunny afternoon, or simply listen to the birdsong and enjoy the slower pace of life. This is a place where time seems to move a little more gently.

Ideally located for exploring the Highlands, Smithy Cottage offers easy access to some of the region's most celebrated landscapes and attractions. The picturesque village of Beauly, with its independent shops, cafés and historic priory, is nearby, while Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, is within easy reach. Outdoor enthusiasts will find excellent walking, cycling and wildlife-watching opportunities throughout the area, including the breathtaking scenery of Glen Affric, often regarded as one of Scotland's most beautiful glens. The renowned Aigas Field Centre is also close by, offering memorable wildlife experiences and guided excursions.

More than simply a place to stay, Smithy Cottage offers an opportunity to immerse yourself in the timeless beauty of the Highlands, embrace a gentler pace of life, and return home feeling refreshed, restored and inspired.
