The village is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is known as the ’osprey village’, as ospreys nest in the nearby Abernethy rspb Nature Reserve of Loch Garten. Lying next to the mighty River Spey, the village has two shops and is opposite a local hotel which has indoor and outdoor dining and bar. One of the best restaurants in the area is within a short walk. The village also boasts the Boat of Garten Golf Club - a James Braid designed 18-hole hidden gem with stunning scenery. There are numerous forest walks and cycle trails right on the doorstep and the steam train arrives at Boat of Garten rail station regularly. The vibrant town of Aviemore is situated in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park and is only a few miles away and boasts a wide range of shops, restaurants and bars. There is also an array of outdoor activities nearby including skiing and snowboarding, mountain and quad biking, climbing, hill walking, fishing and of course cycling as well as a variety of water sports on nearby Loch Insh, Loch Morlich and the River Spey.
