Inverness, the Highlands' administrative centre, serves as a portal to the region's many attractions. The steep coastal cliffs, dense lochs, vast forests, and towering peaks are all within driving distance. The renowned Loch Ness, which is surrounded by stunning natural beauty but is frequently visited by those seeking something else entirely, is a must-see. Culloden Moor, site of the city's namesake battle, lies on the outskirts (National Trust). A trip across the field where the final major battle fought in Britain took place is a sombre reminder of the lives lost by the clansmen. The display depicting the event won an award. There's a lot to do and see in Inverness itself, from visiting museums and the art gallery to going to the excellent theatre and recreational facilities. The city is located on the banks of the River Ness, which is home to a wide variety of animals, including red kites and dolphins, which can sometimes be spotted from the shore or on boat rides out of the harbour.

Comfortable and clean with the added benefit of a washer/dryer which came in handy for our family. Lots of storage throughout and everything we needed to dine in during our stay.

  • Alison

The most comfortable beds & everything you could need. Highly recommended.

The location was perfect and a huge bonus was having somewhere to park our car. Overall we found the property very comfortable- especially the bedrooms; we slept exceptionally well. The facilities within the cottage were really good; everything we needed for a week away. The only criticism I’d have is that we had difficulty finding the instructions for the oven, etc but this was easily fixed by getting in touch with the contact for the cottage. Perhaps for ease these could be put into the welcome folder in the lounge as there was plenty of room. However, all of that said, I’d have no hesitation in booking Porter’s Lodge again in the future.
