This bespoke, detached cottage lies on the shore of Loch Duich in a tranquil location just 5 minutes from the famous Eilean Donan Castle and 30 minutes from the Isle of Skye. This architect-designed house provides comfort and spectacular views. Turn right after Eilean Donan Castle and you enter the quaint village of Dornie, drive along the main street with all houses maximising the wonderful view, a wonderful retreat, away from the hustle and bustle of normal life, so much to see and do, with or without your car, day and night!

Built by the owner on the family croft, An Dòbhran (meaning the otter) provides a warm, Gaelic welcome for you, whether you want to explore the west coast and Skye, climb the many munros nearby or simply sit and watch the tide going in and out from the comfort of any of our rooms, as they all have loch views. There is an open-plan living space allowing you to share each other’s company while doing separate activities. The full-height ceiling, with windows to the sky, provides a sense of space and an opportunity to view the stars from the comfort of the living room. The separate galleried study area creates a separate space where you can overlook the living room or look out to the hill while you read, catch up on emails or plan the next day. An Dobhran can accommodate up to four guests. Upstairs, there is a kingsize bedroom with an en-suite, ideal for a long soak in the bath after a day on the hills, or for taking a refreshing rain shower. Downstairs, the bedroom can be either a twin or super kingsize bed. This is next to the spacious shower room with its walk-in rain shower. Built to modern insulation standards, with air-source underfloor heating and an electric ‘wood burner’, the house is cosy and environmentally friendly, with a car-charging point (charges apply). Local stone and wood are features on the outside of the ‘viewing room’ and inside it provides the ideal spot to watch for shore life such as otters, salmon leaping, herons and other birds, and overhead, the golden and sea eagles that live all around. Binoculars are provided!

On arrival, you’ll receive a welcome pack featuring local produce and a guide to the area. There’s an HD television with BT Sports, Wi-Fi internet, a Nespresso coffee machine as well as a good range of utensils for cooking and baking and a wide selection of books if you fancy an easy day at home. The outside seating area is ideal for an al fresco meal or just a cup of coffee while you watch the world go by. If you really have to do some work while you’re here, there’s a desk and chair in the galleried syudy area.

Located on a quiet road but only minutes from the main route to Skye, you can base yourself here for day trips across the Highlands and Skye. If you prefer to walk, there’s the excellent bar, with food and live music, 500 yards away. Eilean Donan Castle is 10 minutes away and a local bakery and gin producer are 15 minutes’ walk from the house. If you’re interested in arts and crafts, there’s a wide range of creatives with studios open year-round.

The house is ideal for a wide range of guests, including young couples, outdoor enthusiasts, bird-watchers, or anyone looking to get away for a self-catering break in the heart of the Scottish countryside.
