Sheena's But'n'Ben is a beautifully maintained cottage set in a breathtakingly remote Highland location, surrounded by mountains, wildlife, and stunning views. Guests consistently praise its cleanliness, cosy atmosphere, and exceptionally well-equipped kitchen. The property offers peace, seclusion, and direct access to scenic walks, making it ideal for those seeking tranquillity and nature. While the remoteness is a highlight for many, visitors should be prepared for long drives to shops and amenities. Thoughtful touches and friendly hosts further enhance the experience, making it a memorable retreat for couples, families, and dog owners alike.
Multiple reviews describe the cottage as impeccably clean, beautifully maintained, and cosy. No negative comments about cleanliness were noted, indicating a consistently high standard.
The remote, scenic location is repeatedly highlighted as stunning and peaceful, with direct access to walks and wildlife. The only minor drawback mentioned is the long drive to shops and amenities, but this is generally seen as part of the property's charm.
Guests found the cottage warm, cosy, and comfortable, with spacious rooms and a welcoming atmosphere. One review mentioned a hard bed, but this was offset by comfortable alternatives. The open fire and large garden add to the comfort.
The cottage is praised for being exceptionally well-equipped, especially the kitchen, and for having everything needed for a relaxing stay. Minor comments about kitchen lighting and some older utensils were noted, but did not detract from overall satisfaction.
Guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as fresh flowers, cleaning supplies, and a well-stocked kitchen. While these gestures are warmly mentioned, please note that such gifts or extras are not guaranteed for every stay.
The location at the road end near to the headwater of Loch Hourn is almost other worldly. Right by the sea loch with amazing views, it’s frankly a bit of a paradise.. All on the

Sheena’s But’n’Ben is as far as you can drive up the shore of Loch Hourn, an amazing sea loch that separates the peninsulas of Glenelg and Knoydart. The journey to Sheena’s But’n’Ben is almost as good as being at the cottage. Leaving the main road at Shiel Bridge after passing through atmospheric Glen Shiel, you take an old military road to Glenelg, which has a fabulous inn on the water, and the old turntable ferry across the narrows to Skye. The road continues, and dramatically rolls along the coast before turning west to follow the shoreline of Loch Hourn. You pass the Sandaig Islands where Gavin Maxwell and his otters lived, and your view changes from the Sound of Sleat and the Cuillin of Skye to the vast wilderness of Knoydart with its four Munros. Charming Arnisdale is reached, and a little further on picturesque Corran and right at the end of the road you’ll find Sheena’s But’n’Ben next to local favourite Sheena’s Tea Hut! It’s a magical spot and one you’ll fall for. So many have done so before you. But’n’Ben for those that don’t know is a Scots term for a two-roomed cottage, which this property would’ve been originally. Thankfully it has a few more rooms today, and Sheena’s Butn’Ben offers a great level of accommodation for six people.
There are three bedrooms: a double, twin and bunk room. The living room is spacious and has an open fire. The kitchen/dining room is a good space for everyone to convene for hearty meals after long days out exploring the area. There’s so much exploring to do in this part of the world. You could leave the car outside the cottage all week and go on a different walk every day of your holiday. There are countless options for hillwalking - it’s a hikers dream destination!
A favourite local walk goes straight from Sheena’s But’n’Ben, and Walk Highlands describe it as going through some of Scotland’s finest scenery. It follows the Old Coast Path which was built and used back in the 18th and 19th centuries for the Highlands herring industry. Further afield, Glenelg, Skye, Eilean Donan Castle, Lochcarron and further on along the NC500 are all worth exploring. But to return to Corran, and be surrounded by such awe-inspiring landscapes will most likely keep you from straying too far. It’s a magical spot.

This cottage is perfect if you want remote, isolated, stunning views, lots of wildlife with comfort and wifi. If you want shops and bars and restaurants it's not for you. We adored our stay, the solitude, the peace but it's not for everyone. I think we saw less than 10 people in a week and most of those at a distance. We felt very lucky to see red deer about 20 yards away most days. The cottage felt homely and very comfortable. A lot of original features in this beautifully and thoughtfully decorated cottage with welll appointed room layouts.Absolutely no complaints there were ample kitchen utensils and dishwasher plus a laundry room .Shower was powerful and no issues with hot water or heating. A beautiful fire just made everything cosy.I'd just love to have stayed longer. Take your food with you and use the large freezer available. Lots of walks from the doorstep or drive out and adventure along the way. Pop over to Skye on the ferry ..... so much to say about this lovely cottage. My only disappointment was we had to leave it at the end of our holiday.

An adorable cottage with unbelievable scenery right outside! Cottage has everything you require and a large enclosed garden too! Would highly recommend! Only slight downside is the road to get there. 11 miles from nearest small community run shop and a single track road the whole way. All be it with plenty of passing places! If you’re looking for a break from the world then this is amazing! Thanks and will be back
