About this property

Perched on the outskirts of Lybster, a coastal village in the Scottish Highlands county of Caithness, lies this charming, three-bedroom holiday property, Station House. Perfect for families, this fabulous home offers a wealth of on-site amenities, as well as great positioning to the coastline and nearby historic sites. Inside, you will find everything you need for a self-catered stay, including an amply-equipped kitchen/diner, where dishes can be rustled up to be enjoyed at the sizeable table for six, as well as a sitting room complete with plush seating and a centrepiece woodburning stove that serves as the social hub of the house. As the evening grows darker, indulge in a luxurious dip in the outdoor hot tub, where you and your loved ones can take in the stunning views of the clear night sky, before retiring to one of three tastefully-decorated king-size bedrooms, idyllic spots that will help to soothe and rejuvenate you after a long day of exploring. If you can tear yourself away from your peaceful lodgings, take a trip into Lybster, where those looking to practice their golf swing can do so at the Lybster Golf Club, whilst the rest of the family can spend time petting animals at the North Coast 500 Animal Farm Time animal park. Station Houses is the perfect base to explore the North Coast 500, a circular route taking in some of Scotland's most beautiful scenery and considered one of the worlds most scenic road trips. A short drive east along the coast will bring you to Wick, home to attractions such as The Old Anchor, Black Stairs and Ebenezer Place, the world's shortest street, whilst a car journey west will take you to quaint village of Helmsdale, where the historic landmarks of Helmsdale Clock Tower and Emigrants Monument can be enjoyed. All of this and much more await during a stay at Station House.

The Caithness settlement of Lybster, which is steeped in clan history, is situated in a broad harbour with views of the Moray Coast and the North Sea. There are many amenities available in Lybster, such as hotels, stores, and a golf course. You will be captivated by Lybster's captivating combination of ancient history and breathtaking surroundings as well as its tale of continual growth and adaptability. How the community endured throughout the ages is explained in an exhibition about the region's history and natural features. The Grey Cairns of Campster, located five miles inland on the Watten road, are one of the many ancient sites in the area. Visitors can travel back in time by crawling inside the 5,000-year-old cairn, or they can explore the Achavanich Standing Stones, which guard Stempster Hill. Seabird breeding colonies can be seen on the cliffs near Lybster by birdwatchers, or they can view them seasonally on the camera connection that records them.

Location is excellent for exploring the NC500. The cottage itself had everything you will require for your stay and the enclosed garden was perfect for the dog he had never had so much freedom. I would highly recommend this cottage to everyone you will not be disappointed.

It is a perfect base to explore Caithness and beyond. The owners are very welcoming but not intrusive. The kitchen is very well equipped, it also has a large table. The beds are really comfortable. The bathroom is excellent. The cottage is very dog friendly. There is a dog bed with blanket in the kitchen. The garden is well secured for most dogs. It is however on a working sheep farm. We kept our dog on the lead when in the garden for this reason. There are though several dog friendly, livestock free beaches within easy reach. A day trip to Orkney is well worthwhile. Overall we had a fantastic stay. A really nice house to stay in and plenty to do and see nearby. Highly recommended.

Beautifully and tastefully renovated and extended. Love the character of the old Station House, very warm central heating and the wood burner is a cosy addition. Well equipped kitchen and amazing water pressure, which gives a great shower. Good sized outdoor enclosed garden, great for our dogs, paved patio area at the back has a lovely hot tub, which we enjoyed several evenings. Super to find this amazing dog friendly house, in a great spot, whether to explore the wider Caithness straths and coasts, or archaeology, local corner shops on your doorstep to having a relaxing beauty treatment in the Spa 5 mins away, you won't be disappointed. We even extended our stay. Look forward to coming back, highly recommend. Best wishes, Magnus, Julie & dogs Poppy & Fido
