About this property

Strathpeffer 1.5 miles. This lovely detached home is stone-built and has been renovated into a modern property with the presence of its traditional past. With three bedrooms and the capacity to sleep five, this home is ideal for a family or group of friends looking to escape to the Scottish countryside. If you're a dog owner, it’s worth noting that this property is pet-friendly, so there's no need to leave them out of this holiday! After travelling down the private driveway and being surrounded by the beautiful Scottish landscape, you will be welcomed by the two-storey house, which is very easy on the eye. Stepping on inside and through the porch, to the left you have a kitchen fitted with all the essential equipment to help you rustle up your favourite dishes for everyone. Staying with the ground floor, you will discover a dining area fit with a Victorian feature fireplace and following on you'll find the living room, to ensure your time spent together is warm and cosy. Patio doors open out into the enclosed garden area, where you can find seating and views of the country for you to take in. Going upstairs to the large landing, three bedrooms can be located, including the spacious master bedroom with wardrobe space, a second spacious room with zip/link beds, and finally a single room. For walkers and cyclists, the area is rich in pathways and cycle tracks, and dog walkers will love the abundance of the countryside. The pretty spa village of Strathpeffer is close by and well worth a visit, especially in the summer months when the local pipe band often offers traditional entertainment. The capital of the Highlands, Inverness is just a short drive away and here you can shop until you drop or drive around the edge of Loch Ness, for a bit of monster hunting. A real home away from home to help make your time in the highlands a memorable holiday. The Dower House is on the Castle Leod, Cromartie Estate, and is the home of the Mackenzie Clan Chief.

Castle Leod is well known to fans of the Outlander TV series as Castle Leoch.

The Dower House is also handy for the annual ‘Strath Puffer ‘cycle race in January and the famous ‘Snowman Car Rally’ held in February.

Castle Leod is open to the public 25 days in the summer and private tours and weddings throughout the year by arrangement.

Castle Leod is otherwise still a private family home. EPC Rating: Band F

Strathpeffer is often compared to a Bavarian Mountain resort, and owes its growth to the discovery of water springs during the 1700s. The original Spa Pavilion has been restored after a period of disuse and now serves as a venue for a variety of events, including concerts, dances, dramas and exhibitions. This is a popular base for walkers, with Ben Wyvis within striking distance and the Iron Age hill fort of Knock Farril offering views not to be missed!

It is spacious, clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Such a quiet location but well placed for touring around Easter Ross, the Black Isle, Inverness and beyond. Met owner Eve on two occasions and she was extremely helpful and welcoming. Good WiFi, good beds and beautifully furnished. Excellent in every way (well, could have had better weather!

The house is lovely, spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. There is a good garden for sitting out, which is dog safe. The situation is lovely, surrounded by beautiful woodland with many great walks directly from the house. It's in a beautiful part of Scotland, of course, and very convenient for exploring. We were fortunate to be there on one of the few Castle open days so had a very interesting visit, including meeting the charming Clan chief.

The location is fantastic if you want somewhere that feels secluded and private, and we enjoyed lots of great walking and cycling in the surrounding area. The lounge is lovely and cosy, with a great view of the garden and surrounding trees. It's at one end of the house so we found that although it got very warm by the fire, the heat didn't really spread through the rest of the house, which felt quite cold. Other than that it was great, very spacious, fairly well equipped kitchen and the bed we used was comfortable. Thanks!
