Guests say

Thorsvik is a well-loved cottage praised for its spectacular views, wildlife sightings, and cosy atmosphere. Guests appreciate its secluded location, spacious layout, and homely feel, making it an ideal retreat for relaxation and enjoying nature. While some mention cleanliness and maintenance issues, the overall experience is cherished, with many expressing a desire to return.

Reviews indicate a generally clean environment, but some guests have noted areas needing improvement, such as dust and a damp smell in certain rooms. These issues seem to be the exception rather than the rule, suggesting that while cleanliness is satisfactory, there is room for enhancement.

The location is highly praised for its stunning views, abundant wildlife, and tranquillity. Its remote setting contributes to the unique Skye experience, although the access road is noted to be narrow. The overwhelming majority of guests are enchanted by the location, despite its seclusion.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with cosy furnishings and a warm atmosphere. The beds are comfortable, and the house is well-heated. Some minor issues are mentioned, such as a damp smell in some bedrooms, but overall, the property provides a comfortable stay.

The property is well-equipped with cooking equipment, books, and games, contributing to a homely experience. However, some guests have reported maintenance issues like plumbing problems and the need for better upkeep. The lack of a DVD player, despite being listed, was also noted.

While many reviews express a sense of feeling at home and the provision of various amenities, there is no specific mention of gifts or extra thoughtful touches provided by the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to assess this category based on the available information.

We feel very at home in this cosy, comfy house and love to see the ever changing view from the windows, particularly every morning and evening. The house is perfectly positioned for outstanding views and easy access to the shore. We enjoyed exploring the nearby villages too and found plenty of entertaining walks to do around the area. We loved hearing rutting deer, woodpeckers and owls as well as seeing lots of deer, interesting birds, dolphins and even a whale. It's great to gather round the table for dinner each night, watching the sun set and listen to everyone's tales of discovery. A great place to stay!

On a clear day, the views are some of the best we have experienced in a holiday let, truly breathtaking. We saw deer every day on the hills surrounding the house which was magical. The property itself could be so much better. It’s tired and run down. We found ourselves buying scented candles to dull the awful damp smell in the bedroom, a blanket to keep cosy in the living room (there were no logs on arrival) and the plumbing is problematic. Only one of the 3 toilets flushed properly - thankfully there was only the 2 of us. The bedding and towels were fresh and clean, but the house certainly wasn’t. The draws and cupboards in the kitchen were full of things to be used, but they were dirty. There was no welcome information / local leaflets / recommendations for us to look through until we searched through some draws to find some scattered about. It is disappointing, as I’m sure Thorsvik could be the perfect property with just a little more care and maintenance. It feels like the responsibility has been left to guests to make sure it’s kept well. And it hasn’t been. For the price, it was the only property we could find within our budget on such short notice, and now I understand why. If the damp and cleaning issues were fixed, I could see us returning. But it looks as if these issues have been previously mentioned years ago and nothing has changed - which is so sad.

The views are simply out of this world and I spent hours on the balcony drink in hand, taking in the scenery and local wildlife. If you are looking for an idyllic place, well away from the masses of tourists elsewhere on the island, this is the place for you! It's kitchen is really well equipped and laid out. The beds are comfy and the rest of the furniture well looked after. We particularly appreciated the midge screens which allowed us to keep the windows open throughout our stay (when the sun is shining, it can get quite warm inside in the afternoons as the sun shines directly in). We appreciated the excellent communication with the owners about a couple of things that were out of their control.
