About this property

Perfect for families or couples, The Retreat is a delightful, terraced cottage settled into the coastal town of Portknockie, Moray, Scotland. Park beside the property, taking in the seaside views as you unpack in this home-from-home. A charming sitting room welcomes you with the glow of an electric fire stove, so why not settle down into one of the leather sofas and plan the day ahead of you? When mealtimes call, make the most of the ample amenities in the kitchen, where guests can enjoy a heart-warming meal at the dining table. On the first floor a homely snug is ideal for kids to enjoy using the game console available, with beanbag seating and a TV. Throughout the property there are three beautifully presented bedrooms, beginning with a ground-floor king-size with tasteful décor and a TV. There is also the option of a ground-floor twin and a double room, as well as a ground-floor bathroom with a bath with shower over. At the rear of the property, make use of the outdoor sitting area with morning coffee in the sunshine before setting out to explore the local area. Portknockie is a delightful seaside town with a picturesque harbour only a short distance from the property. The town offers a convenience store where you can stock up on essentials, as well as an open-air swimming pool, a selection of tasty eateries, including fish and chips, for which the town is renowned, and beautiful coastal walks along the Portknockie Cliffs Path towards Jenny’s Well, walks stretching to Spey Bay, where there is a dolphin centre, and Cullen where there is a beautiful sandy beach, impressive viaduct and a golf course. Find out more about the local sea life with a visit to Macduff Marine Aquarium or try out a game of golf at Strathlene Golf Club. Beautiful seaside views can be enjoyed from the ruins of Findlater Castle, countryside strolls at Boyne Castle and Inchdrewer Castle and riverside walks from the Bridge of Ash. All of this and so much more with a stay at The Retreat.

The popular coastal village of Portknockie occupies a stunning, cliff-top position overlooking a natural picturesque harbour on the striking Moray Firth Coast. Explore the craggy cliff-tops, beaches and secret coves or absorb the dramatic views of the Bow Fiddle Rock, or look out for the dolphins, seals and sea birds that live in the Moray Firth. National Cycle Route 1 also passes through Portknockie. Why not visit the delightful town of Cullen, situated beneath spectacular railway viaducts and renowned for its hearty Cullen Skink (smoked haddock and potato soup) or enjoy a spot of golf at the remarkable golf course? Take a pleasant drive to the lively market town of Elgin, home to an imposing cathedral, museums and the mesmerising Biblical Gardens. Travel east where you will find the historic town of Banff home to an excellent golf club and the fascinating nearby Inchdrewer Castle. With the whole of the Moray Coast to explore, with its Whisky and Castle Trail, abundance of historic houses and gardens, sparkling golden sands and hospitable inns, this is a superb base from which to enjoy the delightful north east coast of Scotland.
