Rosalin Cottage rests in Perceton Row, which dates from the early 19th Century and is a designated Conservation Area, being one of a few surviving Miners Rows, making it a great base for couples and history lovers looking for a base in North Ayshire.

The 106-mile Ayrshire Coastal Pathway is one of Scotland's Great Trails and part of the International Appalachian Trail, ideal for those with a sense of adventure. The route follows beautiful, panoramic coastlines and passes fascinating castles such as Culzean, Ballantrae and Portencross.

Visitors can also explore the historic Burns Trail or other attractions dedicated to Scotland’s rich history, for example Viking invaders, Betsy Miller, reputedly the first female sea captain, or hop on the ferry to Millport.

Irvine and Dreghorn have a history stretching back to Neolithic times and Dreghorn is possibly the oldest continually inhabited village in Europe.

The harbourside walk enjoys various features with an SSSI across the bay, plus a Scottish Maritime Museum which includes the oldest sea-going private steam yacht and the last Clyde “puffer”; reminders of Irvine's former prominence as a seaport. There is a pretty harbourside walk, which takes in various features including an old crane, which highlights Irvine's former industrial heritage. There are coffee shops along the harbourside, a good local pub - The Ship Inn, a Maritime Museum, and the town also has a leisure centre with ice skating, indoor bowls, swimming pool and fitness facilities. For shopping, the Rivergate Shopping Centre is home to over 60 stores. Further afield in Ayrshire visitors can enjoy the history of Dundonald and Culzean Castles, play a round of golf at one of the many good courses in the area, or spend the day at one of the lovely beaches. In fact, the town of Ayr lies 12 miles further south along the coast and itself offers fine beaches and an esplanade. There are also good opportunities for hillwalking and cycling.

    The cottage is small but fully equipped and if you want a peaceful location steeped in history this is the place to go. The neighbours were very friendly too.

    Irvine ,Troon, Ardrossan all within an short drive. Lots of walks around the cottage to walk our dog.
