Smiddy Cottage is a three-bedroom pet friendly bungalow set in the hamlet of Shanzie near the Town of Alyth and Glen Isla. The cottage has a large, secluded garden surrounded by woods with plenty of walks straight out of the door, you can walk to the river Isla and with spectacular views across to the Sidlaw Hills. The bungalow was built by the current owners and all the rooms are amply proportioned, there is an open fire in the lounge and with the main rooms being south facing it’s a great space to chill out, unwind and enjoy time with family and friends.

On arrival we quickly established no heating. Left a voicemail for the maintenance guys to call me back, which they did about an hour later. John tried to explain how to get the heating on but transpired nest system linked to a very poor WiFi system. After several attempts to reboot the system failed, we had to go home, about 20 minutes away to get heaters. Left several messages over the weekend advising still no heating and got no response. Overall pleasant stay. House a bit tired but certainly work in progress. Beds comfy. Views lovely. Seen a buzzard land on a tree in the garden which isn't secure so kept our dog leashed.Welcome pack very disappointing, bag of chocolate muffins at 99p (found them in Home Bargains) and a packet of Jacob's cream crackers.

Third time staying here. Great if you like peace and quiet. Bungalow is set back from a quiet road and is set in a wooded area, so plenty of wildlife to be seen. We saw a red squirrel in the garden several times this visit. Bungalow was clean and well equipped.Large lawn for the dogs to run around on. Garden is not fenced, so if your dog tends to wander, probably best keep them on a lead.
