Smiddy Cottage is situated in lovely peaceful countryside with lots of places to visit nearby. We had great weather and were able to make good use of the outside sitting area, loungers would have been nice though to relax on. The cottage had everything to make it a home from home. The living room has an open fire which we lit once it cooled at night. There was a problem with the heating which we contacted the caretaker about but it didn't get fixed while we were there, communication wasn't the greatest. The toilet seats were loose and need to be tightened. There were a couple of loose floor boards from the kitchen to the dining room. Most of these problems had been mentioned in previous reviews and are not being dealt with. Apart from that we did have a great holiday and would stay again.

We spent two wonderful weeks at Smiddy cottage and had an excellent stay. The facilities were fantastic and the cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable family holiday. The location was ideal – peaceful, quiet and rural, yet still only a short drive from the nearest supermarket and other amenities. The wildlife was a highlight of our stay. We were lucky enough to see a red squirrel visit several times, even with our three dogs around, and we also enjoyed spotting woodpeckers and red kites in the morning. The cottage itself was clean and the beautiful garden was very well maintained. Although the garden isn't enclosed, it felt safe for our three dogs and our two-year-old to enjoy and explore. This was the perfect place for three generations of our family to spend quality time together. There was plenty of space for everyone and lots of attractions and activities within easy driving distance to keep all ages entertained. We would happily return and would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing countryside getaway with family, children and dogs.
