Guests say

The Coach House in Chirnside is a cosy and comfortable cottage, appreciated for its cleanliness and warm hospitality by the owners. Guests have enjoyed the convenient location for exploring the Scottish Borders and Northumberland. While some found the cottage and its amenities to be perfect for their stay, others noted areas for improvement such as lighting and seating comfort.

Most guests found the cottage to be clean and tidy, with several positive remarks about its cleanliness. However, a few guests mentioned areas that could be improved, such as dusty vents and a worn microwave, slightly lowering the score.

The location is generally praised for its convenience and proximity to local amenities and attractions. The availability of on-street parking and the village setting are appreciated, though some guests noted traffic noise and parking challenges.

Guests describe the cottage as cosy and comfortable, particularly highlighting the bed and warmth of the property. However, comments about uncomfortable seating and the sloping ceiling in the bedroom suggest room for improvement in this category.

The cottage is well-equipped according to several guests, but others pointed out the lack of certain items like a cafetiere and washing machine, as well as maintenance issues with lighting and furniture. These mixed reviews lead to a moderate score.

The owners' hospitality is frequently mentioned, with instances of a welcome pack and anniversary wine being provided. It should be noted that such gestures, while appreciated, may not be a consistent offering for all guests.

About this property

A semi-detached, stone-built cottage, converted from a stable block, on the main street of the village of Chirnside, Berwickshire, close to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Set in the grounds of the owner's home, this welcoming Scottish cottage in the Borders offers a charming interior, ideal for a romantic break or for exploring the beaches, cliffs, coastline and history of this peaceful location. After parking up on the roadside, head into the cottage where you can unwind on the plush sofa in the living room while your partner pampers you with a delicious meal prepared in the well-equipped kitchen/diner. Savour the meal together at the intimate dining table where you can pop open a bottle of fizz to toast your romantic getaway or step outside to the private patio where you can indulge in an alfresco affair with the help of the barbecue.

When the sky darkens over Chirnside head back inside to enjoy a soothing soak in the bathroom before sloping off for a restful sleep in the sumptuous king-size bed. Enjoy a romantic retreat at The Coach House. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 1171641, together sleeping up to 9 guests.

Chirnside takes its name from the ancient Cairn that stood on a hill to the east of the village. It is perched on the ridge between the historic, walled town of Berwick-on-Tweed and Duns, overlooking the Tweed Valley and the distant Cheviots. The village itself is incredibly picturesque and prides itself on its many beautiful gardens. 8 miles away, you'll find the glorious, sandy beaches of Coldingham and Eyemouth, with its working harbour. Nearby attractions also include Maderston, Mellerstain, Paxton House and Ayton Castle. The grounds of the Hirsel ad Duns Castle Estate are also open to the public, as is St Abbs Head; a nature reserve run by the National Trust. The River Tweed provides fantastic opportunities for fishermen, walkers and bird-watchers and there is much evidence of the region's historic and turbulent past to be found in the spectacular countryside.

It's said that there is a private/secluded seating area, there isn't, also on my first night coming down the stairs to use the bathroom I slipped on the second step due to it being highly varnished, I did pass this on to the cleaner who collected our keys and showed her my bruises, was told they were awaiting treads ,recommended maybe they lightly sand them to make less slippy, otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

Hoping there is a space close by. Couple of things that could be upgraded, the Towels in the Bathroom, they had seen better days, and should be replaced in my mind, Second, the Sofa's springs have gone and it needs replacing, hence the 8 or so cushions on sofa, observations not criticism, Clean and tidy place. Thank you.

Chirnside is a good base for many activities in the area including St. Abbs and Holy Island. We had breakfast outside on sunny mornings (and the place outside is also well sheltered for any windy days). Agnes and Bob were very helpful hosts. The cottage was well equipped and had everything we needed. The Co-op just a few meters down the road is very handy and Berwick has a good selection of supermarkets.
